Abstract

A restraint, esp. for use on animals being slaughtered by having their throats cut, comprises of a holder (1) which is placed over the animal's head once it has been immobilised in the slaughtering post (P) and is connected by a cable (4) to an overhead traction unit (3) in the form of a power cylinder. The heat holder consists of an elongated frame with a front member to grip the animal's muzzle and a rear member which applies a pressure to the back of the neck. The front member is articulated to the frame so that it can be opened and closed, and both front and rear members are U-shaped and connected to respective arms.
