Abstract
Description
DESCRIPT1ON
Figure 1
Figure 2
The field of the invention is that of phonic transmission in an Isofrequency Radiotelephony network (Simulcast in English), such as those which are beginning to be established in France among firefighters, since the modification of their frequency plan.
An Isofrequency Radiotelephony network is a system of
Alternating radiocommunications from mobile to operator console and vice versa on the one hand and from mobile to mobile on the other hand. It is a network with several relays making it possible to obtain a large geographic coverage, for example a French department in the case of the Firemen. The particularity of this type of network is that all the relays operate on the same frequency pair and can transmit simultaneously . Its main advantage, in addition to its large geographic coverage, is to be very simple to operate by console and mobile operators, since there is no need to select relays
Two examples of Isofrequency Radiotelephony networks, such as those which have already been installed are shown in Figures 1 and 2
Figure 1
The base is within reach of all relays and vice versa, and connected to the operator console by a dedicated line or a private line
The relay transmitters are controlled by High Stability Oscillators (ILS.O.), with a maximum drift of per year, and the differences in propagation time between the base and each relay are compensated by delay lines at the output of the relay receivers, so that the modulations transmitted by the console are transmitted in phase by the relays
These phase compensations, which are mainly done on radio links, are stable over time and do not need to be retouched. However, high stability oscillators must be reset once a year.
Experience has shown that, by resetting the high-stability oscillators once a year, communications are still completely correct in the console to mobile direction, even in areas where several relays overlap.
On the other hand, for all the other coaches, the quality of communications is much more uncertain in these overlap areas. These are: - communications from mobile to desk, due to the capture effect at the base which causes in general the selection of the relay closest to it, when the mobile 9 touches several relays The relay closest to the base is not, in fact, necessarily the one that received the best signal from the mobile - communications from mobile to mobile, since the propagation time equalizations are only made between the base and the relays, and there can also be capture phenomena such that a mobile will not receive the best relay
Another defect in this type of diagram is the lack of general listening to the network by the mobile. Indeed, communication between two mobiles via two relays, for example relays 1 and 2, will not be heard by the mobiles located in the relay 3 and 4 area, which can initiate calls and cause collisions at the console
Figure 2
In this diagram, the relays are connected to the console site by specialized 4 fuls lines and a comparator is installed on this site between the arrival of the lines and the console.
The high stability oscillators have the same characteristics as in the previous example. The delay lines allow the phasing of the console modulations transmitted by the relay transmitters.
The demodulations by the receivers of the relays of the transmissions of mobiles are not retransmitted directly by the transmitters of the relays, but sent vs the comparator by the specialized lines
The comparator selects the best audio received from the relay receivers on the reception lines (best Signal / Noise ratio), and retransmits it to the console and to all the transmitters by the transmission lines. This selected audio is phased at the relay transmitters in the same way as the audio coming from the consoles
The advantages of this scheme compared to the previous one are - to select the best relay in reception in the case of communication from mobile to desk or from mobile to mobile, therefore to always have a good quality of communication from mobile to desk - allow all mobiles to have general listening on any network since all the relays transmit the same modulation simultaneously
The main drawback is that the phasing is not stable over time because of the dedicated telephone lines whose phase characteristics are sensitive to temperature variations. Automatic compensation for phase variations, due to temperature, is not possible due to the variety of constitutions and installation conditions for dedicated telephone lines. As a result, communications from desk to mobile and from mobile to mobile are not always of good quality in the relay overlap areas
A second disadvantage is the high cost of leasing specialized lines over long distances.
The system according to the invention consists of a closed and unidirectional loop of radio links with N channels, N being the number of relays, used for the selection of the best relay on reception and the phasing of the modulations emitted by them.
The radio beams have for sites a high point called the base, close to the location of the Operator desk and connected to it by a dedicated line or a private line, and the high points of all the relays.
The modulations received by the relays are transmitted from each relay to the base, one channel of each radio beam being reserved for the relay receiver between each relay and the base. The modulation selected by the base is transmitted to the transmitters of all the relays, via the delay lines, by the channel of each radio beam assigned to the receiver of the N th relay.
A block diagram of the system is shown in Figure 3 for a network with 4 relays
The audio paths in each multiplexing device are shown diagrammatically in Figure 4.
In Figure 3 the audios rotate clockwise:
On the site of relay 1, the audio received by the relay receiver is transmitted to channel 1 of the radio beam transmission multiplexer (Figure 4).
At the relay 2 site, the audio received on channel 1 of the radio reception multiplexer is transmitted to channel 1 of the transmit multiplexer, and the audio received by the relay receiver is transmitted to channel 2 of the transmit multiplexer of the Hertzian beam.
And so on, until the last relay (relay 4 in the example given), the receiving audio of which is transmitted to channel 4 of the transmitting multiplexer.
Et ainsi de suite .....On channels 1, 2, 3, 4, of the multiplexer receiving the radio beam from the base where the comparator is installed, the audios received by the 4 relays arrive. The comparator selects the audio with the best Signal / Noise ratio and sends it back to channel 4 of the radio beam transmission multiplexer and to the console via a dedicated line or a private line. This selected audio is received by channel 4 of the reception multiplexer of the radio relay of relay 1 and transmitted simultaneously to the transmitter of relay 1 and to channel 4 of the transmission multiplexer. And so on .....
Channel 4 of the multiplexer receiving radio-relay systems from each relay site thus receives the selected audio.
The delay lines, placed between the receiving multiplexer and the LF input of the transmitter of each relay, make it possible to phase the modulations of the transmitters. This adjustment of phasing is naturally valid for the audio of the desk which follows the same course in an alternation operation.
Note that due to this alternation operation it is imperative that the response time of the comparator does not exceed 100 msec.
The system according to the invention gives the Isofrequency radiotelephony network the advantages of FIG. 2: - selection of the best relay in reception - general listening throughout the network
In addition it provides a technical solution to the problem of the instability of the phase compensations of the diagram in FIG. 2, since these are only carried out on radio links. These compensations are indeed stable over time, as we mentioned on the first page.
As a result, thanks to this system, the quality of the communications is still entirely satisfactory, even in the areas of overlap of several relays, and this whether from mobile to desk, from desk to mobile and from mobile to mobile.
The system according to the invention requires the use of low-capacity radio-relay systems
If N = Number of relays
Number of channels = N
The system according to the invention can be applied to all the fire networks of this type currently installed, the principle of which is that of FIG. 1 and to all the future fire networks of the departments which are still in the old frequency plan this which represents the majority of departments.
The system according to the invention of course also has applications for private Isofrequency Radiotelephony networks.
