Abstract
Description
MOBILE BODY IN RELATION TO A USABLE STRUCTURE
ESPECIALLY FOR A HELMET SIGHT
The present invention relates to a determining system
the orientation and location of a mobile body relative to a
structure by locating directions linked to this body.
Its use is more particularly envisaged in the field
aeronautics where the moving body consists of the pilot's helmet
equipped with a sight and the structure constituted by the cockpit.
Systems like this are made in a variety of ways that
fall into two main categories, opti solutions
ques and magnetic solutions. The subject of the invention relates
to an optical type solution. Such a solution can be
constituted with a group of light-emitting diodes mon
tees on the helmet, one or more sensors mounted on the cockpit and
an auxiliary computer which processes the signals detected to measure
the reference direction linked to the helmet. A successful diet
The sequential diode output is produced from the computer. The
sensors are mounted fixed on the plane and the calculator can give
at any time the spatial position of a defined direction linked to the
helmet, this reference direction preferably being chosen
corresponding to the pilot's direction of sight. A solution of this
genre is described in particular in French patent 2,399,033.
sensor is constituted by means of a detector device formed of
preferably three subsets each with a network
linear of photosensitive elements coupled to a cylindrical diopter of
perpendicular direction to determine three planes passing through the
emitting luminescent source and produce, by an additional calculation, the
corresponding spatial location of this source, then that of
triangle formed by a set of three sources and consecutive
determine the direction to locate.
An important drawback presented by these devices lies in the fact that the optical efficiency is very low, given that the slot associated with the cylindrical diopter is approximately 150 microns wide and that the light energy transmitted by the light-emitting source through this optic and this slot and reaching an element or a few elements of the detector bar remains very limited.
According to another known solution described in French patent 2,433,760, the helmet returns radiation by retro reflection and this radiation ends up on a matrix of elements in
X, Y electrically controlled by a control circuit and by a calculating circuit for passing the elements from the opaque state to the transparent state according to a predetermined selection program.
A single photodetector downstream of the matrix feeds the calculation circuit which provides the angular deviation of the retroreflective device. Several retroreflectors are provided to play the role of the diodes and thus determine a direction linked to the helmet. According to this solution, the electrically controlled matrix can be produced in liquid crystals of the nematic type or by an optoelectric shutter device based on PLZT ceramics. Such a solution proves to be complex, its delicate implementation and its exploitation requires a certain time to explore the matrix element by element.
The object of the invention is to provide a spatial direction tracking system which makes it possible to remedy the drawbacks of the aforementioned solutions by using matrix detector structures in solid circuit.
According to the invention there is proposed a system determining the orientation and location of a movable body relative to a structure, using emission means carried by the body and optoelectric detection means carried by the structure to define by analysis of the detected signals and by the calculation of the intersecting planes and by the lines of intersection of these planes at least one direction linked to this body, the emission means being constituted by a plurality of at least three light sources punctuals with omnidirectional radiation pattern, the system being characterized in that the optoelectric detection means are solid matrix sensors in said charge transfer circuit
DTC, the matrices being at least two in number each, coupled to a receiving optic, the assembly making it possible, by analysis of the detected image, to determine the coordinates of the image point of each of the sources and consecutively, the straight line passing through this point and the center of the associated receiving objective which also passes through the corresponding emitting source, so that each source is determined by at least two intersecting lines, the spatial location of the sources determining the orientation of the mobile body, its location and the location spatial of directions linked to this body.
The features and advantages of the invention will appear in the description which follows, given by way of nonlimiting example with the aid of the appended figures which represent: - Fig.l, a general diagram of a system according to the invention Fig. 2, a diagram illustrating the spatial tracking method used - Fig. 3, a diagram illustrating the location of several directions of the body and its location in relation to the structure - Fig. 4, a detailed diagram which highlights the accuracy of the measurement.
DTC (CCD de "Charge Coupled Device" en terminologie anglosaxonne), un objectif optique récepteur 6 et 7 et un moyen de filtrage optique éventuel, par exemple un filtre interférentiel 8 et 9.Referring to Figure I, the system is considered without limitation in the context of an application to a helmet viewfinder. The aircraft cockpit 1 is equipped with two miniature cameras with solid matrix detectors. These cameras 2 and 3 each group the optoelectric sensor proper 4 and 5 in circuit
DTC (CCD for "Charge Coupled Device" in English terminology), an optical receiver lens 6 and 7 and any optical filtering means, for example an interference filter 8 and 9.
At the rear of each sensor are generally associated circuits 10 and 11 for reading, pre-amplification and possibly circuits for processing the detected video signals. The optoelectric detection means defined by these two cameras make it possible to receive and process determined radiation in a field also determined. The intersection of these fields represents a spatial volume in which the mobile body to be located can move.
In this application to a helmet viewfinder, the movable body is constituted by the helmet 20 of the pilot who supports a set of at least three light-emitting diodes 21, 22 and 23. These diodes are arranged at the top of a triangle, preferably any.
One side of this triangle can represent the direction DR to identify which advantageously corresponds to the direction of sight of the pilot.
The technique used according to the present invention makes it possible to identify a point in space in a manner comparable to the identification carried out by the eyes. In the prior techniques, the arrays used were not capable of spatially simulating a retina.
DTE.There are currently charge transfer matrices on the optronics market which can be compared to a retina. The photosensitive surface is made up of elements distributed matrically in X and in Y. These matrix sensors are mainly used in video cameras. By projecting an image through the lens onto the photosensitive surface, after an integration time it is possible to read each photosensitive pixel and produce a video image. In the envisaged system, a detection assembly of two eyes is simulated using two solid arrays in circuit.
DTE.
The spatial determination of an emitting point is easily obtained from the image point and taking into account that this image point is aligned with the emitting source and the center of the associated objective along a straight line; the coordinates of the image point being known in the matrix and the position of the matrix with respect to the reference trihedron representing the structure being known, we can easily deduce by calculation two straight lines which intersect at a point corresponding to the location of the source point transmitter.
XYZ lié à la structure 1.This measurement technique appears in more detail in Figure 2 where, for convenience and simplification of the presentation and calculations, we consider that the two matrices are coplanar, contained for example in the OZY plane of the trihedron
XYZ linked to structure 1.
The distance D between the centers C1 and C2 is that of spacing between the sensors and constitutes a first known parameter.
The cameras are considered to be identical and the distance C1 01, and C2 02 from these two centers to the center of the objectives 01 and 02 is the same and equal to the focal length f of the objective. A point source S1 has been considered, its light radiation is focused respectively at the image point El on the matrix 4 and at the image point E2 on the matrix 5. By reading line by line and point by point of these sensors we deduce the respective position image points with respect to the corresponding center, that is to say the coordinates of point El with respect to C1 and those of point E2 with respect to C2. The coordinates of the centers C1 and C2 being known with respect to the axes Y and Z, we can easily deduce the coordinates of the points El and
E2 with respect to these axes and the distance El E2 separating these two points. The line El S1 necessarily passes through the center 01 of the objective 6. I1 is the same for the line E2 S1 which passes through the center 02 of the objective 7. Consequently, we can determine by calculation, since the positions of 01 and 02 are known the equations of the lines El Ol and E2 02 and the common point S1 of intersection of these lines in the frame of reference XYZ.
Consequently, the source S1 has been located by its coordinates with respect to the frame of reference XYZ which represents the structure. The source S1 being one of the sources of the grouping 21,22,23 (Fig.l), we proceed by a similar calculation using the image points corresponding to the location of the other source points. As illustrated in FIG. 3, we therefore know the three directions D1, D2 and D3 passing through the sides of the triangle formed by the sources 21,22,23 whose coordinates are known with respect to XYZ. One can be satisfied with determining one of these directions, for example that D1 which corresponds to the direction DR to be identified. However, if one determines the three directions D1, D2 and D3, taking into account that the dimensions L1, L2, L3 of the sides of the triangle of the sources are known by construction, one can deduce from it at any time by calculation the location and orientation of the movable body 20 carrying the sources, with respect to the structure.
The use of an optic presents a big advantage compared to the previous devices with slits and bars taking into account the concentration of focusing light energy in the focal plane where the matrix is located.
FIG. 4 shows a light spot formed in the plane of the matrix corresponding to the image point, El for example, and which generally covers several photosensitive elements called pixels. It is therefore possible to increase the accuracy of the device by determining the center of the spot during the processing of the detected signals. There are two main methods. According to a first method, each elementary cell illuminated on the matrix is detected and the arithmetic mean is carried out, which gives an approximate value of the center of the spot. The approximation is directly linked to the pitch of the elementary cells of the matrix. According to a second method, each of the illuminated cells is detected by recording for each of them the level of intensity of illumination received; this gives a much higher precision since the calculation determines this time the barycenter of the light task. Other methods can also be envisaged to minimize the reading error inherent in the pitch of the pixels. One of them consists in multiplying the number of spatially coherent light source points between them so as to increase the precision after an extrapolation calculation.
To locate the body 20, the light sources, at least three are placed at the top of a preferably any triangle and can be fed simultaneously continuously, a light image formed by the three corresponding points being produced on the plane of the matrix 4 and 5. In order to unambiguously locate the two points 21 and 22 corresponding to the direction DR to be identified (Fig.l), an additional computer may periodically order the extinction of the third light source 23 for a period of time greater than that of integration of the sensor so that only two light points remain to be detected during this interval.
The cameras 2 and 3 can be miniature cameras fitted with infrared filters 8 and 9 to filter the radiation and light emitting diodes 21 to 23 emitting in the infrared, so as not to disturb the pilot by local sources emitting in the visible . It will be noted that absolute spatial location can be obtained on board an aircraft using the data supplied by a vertical control unit so as to transpose, according to known techniques, to the ground trihedron the coordinates of the direction DR measured with respect to the trihedron. airplane represented by structure 1.
