Abstract

The tactile screen can display images or characters in various formats. In normal use the images or characters are laid out in a grid resembling a conventional key pad. The screen has a liquid crystal display, and is sensitive to externally applied pressure. The screen is connected to a controlling circuit that has external access to allow programming to permit various symbols to be used to mark the 'keys', and to alter the sequence of the 'keys'. Different levels of access authority can be incorporated. The circuit processes the entered codes and activates a mechanism to release the access control. The circuit can also be programmed to record or to transmit data on use, and misuse, of the screen.
