Motor vehicle bumper device, consisting of an outer shell (1) which extends transversely and laterally in front of the bodywork (2) of the vehicle and which has horizontal reinforcement plates (6, 7) connected to the lower part (8) of the shell (1) and oriented in the direction of a structural cross-member (3) rigidly connected to the ends of the longitudinal members (4) of the vehicle, characterised in that the plates (6, 7) are partially fitted into the structural cross-member (3) and locally enclose an abutment element (20) which absorbs energy.
