Description
The invention relates to a reactive power compensation device comprising at least one group of capacitors connected to a main power supply circuit by a controlled switch.
Electrical machines, such as motors or transformers, powered by alternating current involve active and reactive energies. Active energy, measured in kvah, is transformed into mechanical energy or heat. The reactive energy, measured in kvarh, is mainly due to the inductive components present in the loads, and does not correspond to heat or mechanical work. This results in a phase shift between the current I and the voltage U applied to the load. The apparent power being in the form R = UI, the active power is in the form P = Ul Cos <p and the reactive power
Q = UI sin <p. It can be seen that for a given active power, the smaller the power factor Cos so is, the greater the demand current and the apparent power. A small Cos so implies an oversizing of the installation upstream. In order to optimize the power available, power distribution companies have defined billing systems that penalize subscribers with a power factor that is too low, which corresponds to reactive powers and high reactive energy. Reactive energy is then counted and billed when its value exceeds a certain percentage of active energy consumed (for example 40%). In known manner, the reactive energy consumed by the electrical installation can be reduced by connecting one or more capacitor banks to the line. The connection of these capacitor banks is controlled by relays reactive to the reactive power consumption. Another way of optimizing available power is to bill subscriptions based on apparent power, without charging the reactive energy consumed. This type of subscription also aims to penalize installations with a low power factor.
In subscriptions based on the apparent power without billing of the reactive energy consumed, relays allowing the connection of capacitor banks as a function of the measured reactive power can also be used. However the cost of these relays is high compared to the gain they could bring by requesting subscriptions of lower power. Other devices use unloaders, but this solution imposes constraints on the users.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive reactive power compensation device.
According to the invention, this object is achieved by the fact that the device comprises means for measuring the current in the main power supply circuit, downstream from the connection of the controlled switch, and measuring means of a magnitude representative of the apparent power, connected to the output of the current measuring means and controlling the opening of the controlled switch when said representative quantity exceeds a predetermined threshold value.
According to a preferred embodiment, the magnitude representative of the apparent power is constituted by the current measured by said current measuring means.
In a development of the invention, the device comprises a plurality of groups of capacitors, controlled switches and predetermined threshold values, the measuring means controlling the closing and opening of the controlled switches so as to connect one or more groups of capacitors if one or more predetermined threshold values are exceeded.
Other advantages and features will emerge more clearly from the following description of particular embodiments of the invention, given by way of non-limiting examples, and represented in the accompanying drawings, in which:

La figure 5 représente les vecteurs de puissance d'un dispositif selon un développement de l'invention.FIG. 5 represents the power vectors of a device according to a development of the invention.
Figure 6 shows the apparent power gain versus power factor curve.
Figure 7 shows the ratio of power reactive and active as a function of power factor.
The flow and power diagrams shown in Figure 1 show the relationships between the different quantities. The current I breaks down into an active part Ia in phase with the supply voltage U, and a reactive part Ir out of phase by 90 "with respect to the mains voltage, thus Ia = I Cos so and Ir = I sin <p In the same way, the apparent power R, equal to the product UI, is decomposed into an active power P = UI cos <pl a reactive power Q = UI sin ço .When the power factor Cos so is small, the ratio between the apparent power and the active power used becomes very high and leads to an over-dimensioning of the electrical installations At the same time, the reactive power Q and, consequently, the reactive energy, are all the higher as the power factor is small. In order to optimize the power available, the energy distribution companies have defined billing systems that penalize subscribers with a low cost of cos, for example by charging reactive energy when it exceeds one of these. rtain percentage of active energy consumed.
To reduce the reactive energy consumption, the user can compensate his electrical installation by installing a capacitor bank. In known manner, the capacitors are separated into groups in order to optimize the capacitance of the compensating reactive energy and to avoid overcompensation.
A circuit breaker 1 at the head of the installation feeds a distribution line 2 on which circuit breakers 3 supplying feeders 4 and compensation circuits are connected. A compensation circuit generally comprises a group 12 of capacitors 13 connected to the distribution line 2 by means of a controlled switch (10, 9) and a protection fuse 11. The controlled switches are controlled by a relay 5 varmetric responsive to the reactive power of the installation. To determine the values of the reactive and active powers, the relay 5 needs the voltage of the distribution line 2 and the supply current upstream of the distribution line 2.
The current is taken upstream of the distribution line 2 by means of a current transformer 6 connected to the relay 5 by a secondary circuit 7. When the reactive power, inductive exceeds a threshold or a predetermined percentage of the active power , the relay 5 controls the closing of a switch 10 and a group of capacitors is connected to the distribution line 2. If the reactive power, inductive, remains high, other groups of capacitors can be connected to compensate gradually the value of the inductive reactive power. When the inductive loads of the installation are reduced or disappear, the relay detects a capacitive reactive power and opens the controlled switches to avoid overcompression.
These devices reactive to the reactive power are complex and expensive. They are not suitable for low power installations or for apparent power subscriptions. According to one embodiment of the invention, a compensation device which reacts according to the apparent power makes it possible to reduce the power control costs.
Figure 3 shows the vectors of the powers in such a device. For an installation with a known Cos Sol power factor, the capacitor connection threshold is represented by a coefficient x. This threshold corresponds to a portion xPo of the active power Po or xRt of the apparent power R1.So when this threshold is reached the reactive power Q is canceled by a reactive capacitive power of the same value but of opposite sign Q = xPo tan sol . When the power continues to increase, the portion between xP0 and Po retains the initial phase shift 501 but the overall apparent power of the installation R2 has a smaller phase shift su 2 and therefore a value R2 = P / Cos r 2 lower than the R1 value that would have been obtained without compensation.
FIG. 4 represents a device implementing the invention. A counting and connecting device 15 is, as in the device according to FIG. 2, disposed between a distribution network 14 and a main supply circuit 16. Measuring and control means 17 are connected to the sensor output current 21 and voltage for supplying the current and the voltage supplied to the secondary distribution line 18 which feeds outlets 23. A group 21 of capacitors 22 is connected through a controlled switch 20 to the main supply circuit 16. upstream of the current and voltage sensors. The control of the switch 20 is performed by a relay when the measuring and control means 17 have detected the exceeding of a predetermined threshold, xR1, on the apparent power consumed by the installation. When the switch 20 is closed, the capacitors are connected to the circuit 16 and the apparent power R1 seen by the counting device 15 becomes lower than the apparent power R1 seen by the measuring means 17. This apparent power gain allows to choose a lower subscription and pricing. The positioning of the measuring and control means downstream of the capacitor connection ensures stable operation of the device, the apparent power seen by the measuring means not being modified.
Figure 5 illustrates the power vectors of a two-threshold compensation device.
The apparent power R1 consumed by the installation is measured by the means 17 at a ground phase shift with the active power P. When a threshold A apparent power is measured by the means 17, a first controlled switch closes and a first group of capacitors compensates the reactive power Q1. The apparent power seen by the counting and connecting device 15 approaches the active power P1 while the means of the measurements always measure the apparent power A on the axis of
R1.If the power consumption increases further, the apparent power R2 seen by the subscription device increases as well as the phase shift <p2. When the apparent power read by the measuring means 17 reaches a threshold B, a second group of capacitors is connected to the main circuit to compensate for the reactive power Q2. The apparent power then approaches the active power P2. For values of active powers P3 close to the subscription power of the installation, the apparent power R3 has a value close to the active power, the reactive power Q3 and the phase shift <p3 being small, although the power R1 read by the measurement means remains high. A decrease in the power consumed causes the second and then the first group of capacitors to be disconnected, when the measured apparent power falls below the second and then the first threshold (B, A). opening the switches to disconnect the capacitors is essential to avoid overcompensation and overvoltages when the power consumed is low.
xRt = xPO/Cos < pi = PO /Cos < p2 = R2 soit un seuil de connexion des condensateurs xRi où:
In an embodiment corresponding to FIGS. 3 and 4, the operating threshold xRt of the switch 20 corresponding to the active power xP0 (FIG. 3) can be optimized so as to have the relationship:
xRt = xPO / Cos <pi = PO / Cos <p2 = R2 is a connection threshold of the capacitors xRi where:
Q = xPo tan col
The value of the reactive power to be installed is then equal to:
Q = xPo tan col
The gain on the subscription of the power is then equal to R2 / R1 = x.
Figure 6 shows the evolution of the gain on the subscription as a function of the power factor Cos <p1 if the conditions mentioned above are fulfilled. The curve of FIG. 7 represents the ratio between the reactive power Q of the capacitors to be installed and the active power Po as a function of the power factor if the conditions on the value of x are also verified.
For a Cos = 0.7 and a threshold xRt of apparent power equal to the power
R subscribed during the subscription, the capacitors must generate a reactive power
Q = 0.7 R (0.8 to 0.6). The gain on the available power is then on average 30% (40% to 20%). For economic reasons, it may be interesting to limit it to lower values and retain Q? R0.4 P (0.3 to 0.5). The gain on the available power is then of the order of 25% (20 to 30).
The measuring and control means 17 (FIG. 4) react to the apparent power, but since the voltage of the electrical network is stable and the calibration of the subscription is generally based on the maximum current, the means 17 can respond to the current value only. The thresholds for closing the controlled switches 20 are then proportional to the maximum current defined by the subscription. In a very simple embodiment, the measuring and control means 17 and the controlled switch (20) can be grouped into an amperometric switch.
