Abstract

The individual nest takes the form of an elongated vault, with a semi-circular cross section, and with a length equal to at least two times its width. The vault is formed as a rotational moulded envelope (1), with the lower edge mounted on a metallic frame (2). A side entry (4) is arranged close to one end of the vault, giving access to the stall area (15), formed between the entry and the far end of the vault. The stall area is edged (16, 17, 18 & 33) with a barrier, so as to protect the piglets from being trampled. A protected zone (21), reserved for the piglets, is arranged between the entry and the nearer end of the vault. USE/ADVANTAGE - It provides the means for raising piglets in a controlled environment, which provides the required protection for the piglets from accidental crushing by the sow.
