Abstract

Invention intended for users of any type of orthopaedic crutches, and more particularly of crutches of the so-called "elbow crutch" type, requiring bilateral support. The object of the invention is to join or separate two crutches using magnetised surfaces, in order to allow a handicapped person with walking difficulty to release one or both crutches in order, depending on the case, to have one or both hands free without dropping the crutches.

Description

The present invention relates to orthopedic canes arranged to allow a disabled to join them together.

The technical sector to which the invention relates is that of personal use objects in the medical sector and more particularly that of orthopedic canes for persons with a disability of walking.

There are currently different types of rods in the medical field, for example we can cite: "T" rod called "Maginaux", "Mailloche" rod, "Anatomique" handle rod, "English" rod .

They have as a common feature a tubular part whose first end is intended to support the ground and the second serves, directly or not to support the disabled. A handle is mounted on the tubular body at a variable height depending on the type of rod used.

If the rods for a user requiring bilateral support, currently offer satisfactory support qualities it is not the same for their size to perform actions still necessary in everyday life. Indeed the user cannes in the same way that any individual must be able at any time and someoit the place to release one or the hands without risking them to fall.

Because the canes by their current configuration can not remain in balance.

All the inventions proposed to date to remedy these difficulties have provided inefficient and incomplete answers (see French Patent Nos. 2,290,886 and 2,655,263).
The purpose pursued in this invention is to allow the user of rods to release without external help one of his hands by maintaining effective unilateral support or both hands by improving the stability of canes placed on a vertical support. The remarkable principle of this invention lies in a system for securing or detaching two rods, at the request of its user, while retaining their original function.

The accompanying figures illustrate the invention:
FIG. 1 represents a cane of the type called "cane
English "in profile.

La figure 2 représente deux cannes vues de face solidarisées entre elles.FIG. 2 represents two canes seen from the front and joined together.

Referring to the figures, the rod object of the invention, preferably of the type called "English cane" consists of a tubular portion (1), a handle (2) fixed on a handle support ( 3) which encloses the tubular part at its first upper third. A support pad (4) is fitted on the lower end of the tubular portion. A U-shaped arm guide (5) is fitted horizontally on the upper end of the tubular portion. Two magnets (6a) and (6b) preferably located on each outer face of the guide arm allow as shown in Figure 2 to secure the two rods together.

According to preferred methods of manufacture, the magnetized zones constituted by ferrite magnets (Ferram or Alnico alloy (Ticonam)) are arranged in the upper half of the cane on its outer faces. the magnetized zones are provided on each outer face of the arm guide.

The rods for a satifying use, must be identical and interchangeable. However, it can be seen on the cane illustrated in FIG. 2 that, thanks to the gripping handle, it is possible to define a front part and a rear part, and consequently a left side and a right side from which a left magnet ( 6a) and a right magnet (6b).

It is important to obtain an optimal magnetic field that the magnets (6a) and (6b) have a polarization in opposite directions and always on the same degree of axis. The shape of the magnets is preferably of the round or polygonal cylinder type, or truncated pyramid, or truncated cone. The magnets disposed on the rod are glued, or snapped, or overmoulded, or screwed or welded and their magnetic field is determined to allow the rods to be secured and held against each other. The magnets are placed either at the time of manufacture or on already existing canes and they can be totally or partially covered by a protective material.

Thus their user can as in Figure 2 secure his two rods against each other by keeping an effective unilateral support and thus free a hand. Similarly, FIG. 2 shows that the two rods thus secured are more stable since they rest on the ground by two points of support.

It can be seen from the use that the magnets thus positioned are situated approximately at the average height of a certain number of metallic elements, we will cite for example: the refrigerators and the door locks, which will also offer new types stable vertical supports for rods.
