Abstract

The invention relates to a device making it possible to feed foals independently of their mothers from their very youngest age, so as to ensure rapid growth with a view to intensive competition as from two years of age. It consists of two narrow corridors (1) each fitted at its end with a manger (4) and with a rack (3) in order to provide, in calm conditions, the absorption of an individual and controlled feed without the risk of accident and of "stress". The device according to the invention is particularly intended for foals from the age of one month up to about eighteen months.

Description

DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTION
The present invention relates to a device for feeding foals independently of their mothers.

Until a short time ago, foals were raised in the meadow without any additional food; mothers largely supported themselves.

As the races only started for trotters at the age of four or five, breeders gave foals time for natural growth, which was therefore slow. By the age of four, the foal had grown fully and was able to participate in races much slower than now.

Nowadays, methods have changed and profitability is essential from the year of their two years.

From this young age, without additional contribution, the animal would be unable to support violent efforts; it is therefore necessary to provide a supplement to the feeding of the foal from the first month of its birth, from where many difficulties and the interest of the invention.

Here are the main problems encountered by breeders according to the method used:
- the first consists in leaving the foal in the meadow with his mother; a common ration complementary to the herbage is given. The reaction of the broodmare is to chase her foal and eat her ration from where the consequence of an overfeeding of the mother and an underfeeding of the foal.

- to eliminate the disadvantages of the first method, the breeder ties the broodmare while his foal eats. The feed result is good, but this results in a considerable loss of time for the breeder and an additional strain, especially if the number of broodmares is multiplied.

- the third method, the most used by large farms, consists of having a large feeder in a place in the meadow common to all foals. To prevent mothers from approaching, a fence is erected all around; the foals pass underneath. This latter technique, close to the invention has several drawbacks and not the least. The strongest foals chasing the weakest, it follows as above an overfeeding of one and an underfeeding of the other. Foals are constantly increasing with all the risk of accidents that this entails. It also results in a huge waste resulting in unnecessary expenses for the breeder. And above all, the foal eating its ration while being wary of the others, becomes stressed and does not take full advantage of this contribution essential to its precocity.

The invention eliminates these drawbacks by allowing the foal to be perfectly fed in peace from a very young age. It has the additional advantage of preparing the animal to enter a narrow van, saving time for the future.

Figure I shows the tracing on the ground of the device according to the invention. The corridor (I) used by the foal directs it facing the rack (3) as well as the feeder (4) located under the rack slightly forward. The surface (2) located between the two corridors (I) is used to store food (round or square haystack, cereals etc ...

The rear view (FIG 2) on the entry side of the foals shows the possibility of extending this feeder to infinity.

A plugged socket system (FIG 3) allows the successive junctions.

The in-between (7) corresponds to the passage of a man brought to intervene on either side of the feeder; it is closed by a door.

The side view (FIG 4) reveals marine plywood panels (I3) used to delimit the corridors (I), a funnel (9) surmounted by a removable cover (IO) in transparent tarpaulin leaving the breeder the visibility of his foals.

In FIGS. 5 and 6, the cross section of the tent (9) explains the simultaneous distribution of the cereals (I2) and then the hay (II) thanks to a board (I9) pivoting around an axis (I4) which, when is raised allows a passage of cereals (I2) in the manger; lowered, it prevents the hay (II) from going down. I1 is therefore suspended, attached to the rack (3) above the cereals (12). see FIG 5 and 6.

The feeder (4) slides on two rails (I5) FIG 7 which allows the breeder to clean it without going to the other side.

Before taking the corridor (I), the foal will have passed under an electric fence or not (6) about Im20 high, leaving his mother no possibility to accompany him.

The feeder is made of a nestable square tube, the roof, the cover and the cover are in sheets, the sides are in marine plywood.

Perforated iron plates (I6) FIG 8 are welded under each tube (18) and allow inking to the ground by iron needles (17).

The device according to the invention is particularly intended to supplement the feeding of foals from the age of one month until the breaking in (approximately eighteen months).
