Toutefois un tel dispositif ne permet pas de raccourcir ou d'allonger la sangle autant que l'on veut : en effet, celle-ci est repliée sur elle-même, étant fixée par une extrémité au bagage et par l'autre à un anneau coulissant, après passage dans un autre anneau fixé au bagage, le réglage en longueur se faisant entre ces deux anneaux.Il s'ensuit que le réglage est nécessairement fonction de la longueur de la sangle : en utilisant une sangle longue, il n'est pas possible de la raccourcir autant que l'on veut, notamment pour la plaquer contre le sac, alors qu'en utilisant une sangle plus courte, cela est possible, mais au détriment de sa longueur.
