Abstract
Description
RESPECTIVELY CERAMIC AND CARBON-CARBON
The invention relates to a braking torque of which one braking surface is ceramic, the other being of different nature.
No. 4,146,654 discloses braking torques whose friction coatings consist of one or more metals, carbides or oxides of the following list: Co, Mg, Nd, Ti, W, Y , Ni, MoC,
Mo2C, BNbC, Nb2C, Ta2C, WC, W2C, V2C, Cr2O3, TiO2. These coatings are made by plasma spraying.
In the field of aircraft, CERMET / steel braking torques have also been tested, their performance in distress braking before take-off is defective when the torque is worn. Carbon-carbon composite braking torques are now used for aircraft, but they wear out faster in jogging at airports or "taxiing" than at landing and need to be replaced at a frequency excessive.
The Applicant has sought to develop a braking or friction torque performing both for high speed braking and braking in progression by jerks, that is to say giving in these various conditions and their alternating effective braking with moderate wear.
The object of the invention is a friction torque for braking a vehicle comprising two moving parts relative to one another and applying against one another by friction surfaces when a brake, a said part having a said ceramic friction surface, characterized in that the other part has a carbon-carbon composite friction surface.
The fact of choosing dissimilar materials for the present friction torque surprisingly gives reduced wear at low energy, this wear remaining moderate at high energies, and at the same time effective braking when the speed and / or the energy vary.
The carbon-carbon composite qualities used in this friction torque have been studied, and the following preferred choices have been concluded: - to have a reduced wear in the different braking conditions, use as a carbon-carbon composite a random substrate of carbon fibers densified by chemical carbon deposition, these fibers being of diameter between 5 and 12 micrometers. The preceding chemical deposition is usually done in the vapor phase, and the fibers are typically 40 to 80 mm in length; to preferentially brake at low speeds or energies (for example less than 100 km / h), use as a composite a random substrate in carbon fiber tows densified by chemical carbon deposition, these locks being 10 to 40 mm long and containing each 6000 to 15000 elementary fibers of diameter 5 to 12 micrometers.
We then have stronger wear at higher speeds or energies.
The ceramic, typically coated, forming the other face of the friction torque preferably contains at least 60% by volume of oxides, carbides or nitrides resistant to thermal shock above 9000C (surface temperatures of some braking). These compounds are thus preferably oxides and / or carbides and / or nitrides Cr or W and / or iron carbide.
Cr, Fe, Mo, Ni, Co, W.This ceramic also preferably contains 1 to 40% by volume of metal particles, added to improve the quality of the deposit, typically made by plasma projection of one or more of the elements
Cr, Fe, Mo, Ni, Co, W.
While refractory oxides such as ZrO 2 and TiO 2 do not have a satisfactory behavior, chromium oxide (Cr 2 O 3) has a good behavior as evidenced by the tests, and it is still preferable that the ceramic of int-ention contains at least 60% and better at least 90%.
Carbon-carbon composites being more expensive, it is preferable that the part having a friction surface is for example a disk or more generally a part driven in motion when the vehicle moves, the part having a carbon-carbon friction surface. being a braking pad.
For the holding of the ceramic surface layer, and especially for the economy of the part carrying it, it is advantageous that this piece is cast iron. The thickness of the ceramic coating forming this layer is preferably at least 0.02 mm and typically between 0.05 and 1 mm.
OF THE INVENTION - Friction torque giving both low wear at low braking energy ("taxiing" of planes, jerk braking of trains and vehicles or industrial vehicles), and good braking with moderate wear at higher and higher energies and / or speeds.
- Couple de friction économique, particulièrement dans le cas où le volume de carbone-carbone est réduit, la pièce qui en est constituée ou revêtue étant un patin.- Economic friction torque, particularly in the case where the carbon-carbon volume is reduced, the part which is constituted or coated being a pad.
ESSAIS
pressions".TESTS
A) Test device and test conditions
The tests were carried out on a device allowing to simulate
stop braking, with energy up to 1 MJ, and with
pressures up to 10 MPa, then of the type "stop under strong
pressure. "
hydraulique.Each braking torque consists of a bare or coated drive disc
rotating and a pad applied against the disc by actuation
hydraulic.
patin en étant déduite;
- la pression d'application du patin;
- la température des garnitures, mesurées pour le patin;
- les temps de freinage.We measure during braking:
- the speed of rotation of the disc, its linear velocity at the level of
skate being deducted;
the application pressure of the pad;
- the temperature of the pads, measured for the pad;
- the braking times.
The successive tests were made: firstly under pressure
application rate of 0.5 MPa and at various speeds of 1500, 2500, 3000
and 3850 rpm. corresponding respectively to speeds
linear 60 - 100 - 120 and 164 km / h; on the other hand at speed
constant 2500 rpm (100 km / h) by varying the pressure
from 0.5 to 6 MPa. There was friction for each couple
40 tests for the lowest speed and 10 to 20 tests for
each of the other conditions.
In particular, from the measured parameters the energy has been calculated
dissipated, equal to the kinetic energy of the moving part, and the
coefficient of friction.
B) COUPLE DE FRICTION TESTES
On a testé (Tableaux 1 à 4):
We tested (Tables 1 to 4):
a known carbon-carbon couple,
- a comparison couple: carbon-carbon pad / cast iron disc,
- two couples according to the intention: carbon-carbon skate quality
"A05" and "AF", trademarks of AEROLOR, and discs coated with
ceramic.
Composite "A05" is based on carbon fibers of diameter included
between 5 and 12 microns, as described more fully in the text
who is before. The composite "AF" is based on strands of fibers, as
also describes.
of Cr2O3 and 5% free Cr, its thickness was 0.2 to 0.3 mm.
C) RESULTATS
A sought-after situation is to have for each condition considered
(speed, energy, pressure) a high friction, a relatively average heating and low wear. The temperature is measured in the pad at 3 mm from the friction surface.
The known torque A05 / A05 gives a coefficient of friction constantly raised, above 0.5, a strong wear at low energy (at 60 km / h) or at low pressure.
On retrouve la particularité rappelée en préambule: usure forte ou assez forte (selon rôdage) en "taxiing".We find the particularity recalled in the preamble: strong wear or strong enough (according to rôdage) in "taxiing".
The comparison between the A05 / cast iron couple and the Cr203-coated cast iron pair A05 makes it possible to observe the effect of the ceramic coating: increased friction and reduction of wear, mainly at a pressure of 0.5 MPa and at different energies tested. The coefficient of friction is only 0.16 at the lowest speed and at low pressure, it rises to 0.46 and 0.50 with speed (Table 1), while it remains low (0.16 at 0.2) when the cast iron is not coated. Overall, it is this couple that offers the most interesting compromise: good braking at different speeds or energies, provided that below 100 km / h or 422 kJ the pressure is at least 2 MPa, and particularly wear low for these various conditions, this wear increases slowly with the braking energy. At the end of the series of tests, it was found visually a very low carbon-carbon wear "A05", and no deterioration of the ceramic coating .
The ceramic-coated AF / cast iron torque gives a higher friction (coefficient of friction 0.32) than the previous couple at 60 km / h and under 0.5 MPa. On the other hand, it leads to greater wear (Tables 3 and 4) and to more heating as soon as the speed or energy or the pressure increases. This couple is particularly interesting at low speeds or energies.
We also tested couples slip in Cermet base bronze / A05 disc, they were not included in the Tables because of their poor results: coefficient of friction decreasing with speed or pressure, and strong wear of the two elements especially at low energy.
This heterogeneous friction torque is therefore not favorable to the opposite
of the couple of the intention.
