On utilise couramment, pour le conditionnement de divers types d'objets, des boites d'emballage réalisées à partir d'un unique flan en carton qui présente une paroi de fond, des parois latérales et une paroi de couvercle, la boîte étant mise en forme par pliage des différentes parois autour de lignes de pliage et/ou de doubles lignes de refoulement imprimées sur le flan. La paroi de couvercle est généralement maintenue en position par des volets latéraux dont elle est munie et qui sont insérés à l'intérieur de la botte. Un exemple d'une telle boîte est celle qui est vendue dans les bureaux de postes pour emballer des colis.
