Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to localized oxidation in an enclosure, to the sterilization of the atmosphere, and to the modification of the electrostatic ambient balance inside the enclosure of the container.
The container basically consists of an airtight steel boot of standardized dimensions, designed for the transport and storage of loads. The most commonly used models these days are those of 6.05 m (20 feet) in length for 30.20 m3 (106 cubic feet) of internal volume; 9.13 m (30 feet) in length for 45.5 m3 (1,606 cubic feet) of internal volume; and 12.19 m (40 feet) in length for 62.90 m3 (2,208 cubic feet) of internal volume. These dimensions are the most commonly used but there are modifications to suit the needs of the users.
As a result, since the container is a metal boot exposed to the elements in storage areas and on ship decks, it undergoes alterations in the external atmosphere which causes water condensations and accelerates biological processes, as well that also the oxidation of the products it contains. In the case of agricultural products, this effect results in a considerable increase in the proliferation of microorganisms (fungi, bacteria) inside the container. This also occurs in the case of leather and cotton articles and the like. And manufactured items such as optical systems, ribbons containing a substrate of biodegradable chemicals, and all materials related to electronic computational processing, are affected by these changes, so containers could not be used as devices fixed storage or for long-term storage of materials sensitive to the action of microorganisms.
The present invention proposes, as a novelty, the complete sterilization of the internal atmosphere by its localized oxidation, and also the modification of the electrostatic balance of the internal volume of the container. Sterilization is carried out by localized oxidation in a chamber where the internal ambient air of the container is compressed, and the modification of the electrostatic balance is obtained by thermionic emission of electrons, accelerated by an appropriately polarized anode. Air & interior of container is moved by propeller suitably positioned
The use of the atmosphere-controlled container for the storage of agricultural products has obviously remained advantageous when compared with the storage techniques used or developed as indicated below. In short, the analysis is as follows the use of a controlled atmosphere has become known as the most advanced technological variant of storage techniques. Oxygen concentration, humidity and temperature are controlled and gases such as C02, N2 and the like are frequently used in order to reduce the proliferation of microorganisms and insects, thus using very few insecticides and germicides. These techniques are effective in some cases, since there are anaerobic microorganisms which survive in the absence of oxygen, as well as germs and insects which adapt to the chemical compounds used.
The container with controlled atmosphere is a significant improvement in storage techniques under controlled atmosphere, since it introduces the novelty of complete sterilization of the medium by localized oxidation in a treatment chamber. The system of high energy density in the ceramic capillaries was used in the prototypes, which causes the oxidation of the oxidizing agents in the treatment enclosure, together with the modification of the electrostatic balance. Sterilization used in this way completely eliminates aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms without the need to use chemical compounds. The modification of the electrostatic balance of the medium, according to J.J. Thomson and G.P.
Thomson dans l'article "Conduction of Electricity through Gases", pages 310, 394, DOVER PUB. INC. N.Y. Thomson in the article "Conduction of Electricity through Gases", pages 310, 394, DOVER PUB. INC. N.Y. USA, 1963, causes a modification of the surface tension of the liquid medium in this environment; it creates condensation nuclei, caused by the formation of suspended dipoles, bringing about an appreciable modification of the vapor pressure. These effects keep the stored product at a low humidity level.
The elimination of microorganisms from the environment, associated with the effects described above, causes appreciable changes in the ecosystem which allows many insects to survive, since the presence of a few fungi is of particular importance. as food for the larvae. This imbalance causes a drastic reduction in the proliferation of insects.
With regard to damage caused by rodents, the container with controlled atmosphere is hermetically closed and is therefore inaccessible to these animals.
It is a modular variant to low-cost storage techniques 9, since it can be considered as an integrated storage and transport system. Rural producers can adapt their storage capacities to immediate needs, and transport takes place when the need arises, thereby reducing the losses inherent in such operations.
The utility of the present invention is incalculable in scope since it allows the economical storage of small quantities of agricultural products while reducing the cost of storage of large quantities, since the system has modular characteristics and can therefore be dimensioned. as desired by the user.
From the economic point of view, the mobility and modular nature of this storage method revolutionizes the technique of calculating cost prices for the installation of a storage system. The low cost price of the installation of the present invention and the negligible energy consumption have been determined and it has been found that 300 watts is sufficient for a container of 12.19 m (40 feet) using the system of density 9 high energy of oxidation by ceramic capillaries. However, any oxidizing agent can be used and the determining factor is the cost price or the application of the method.
The invention therefore relates to a container with controlled atmosphere, characterized in that the air inside the container is treated in an oxidation chamber by forced circulation, causing the oxidation of the particles in suspension and neutralizing the atmosphere. In this container, the oxidation element inside the oxidation chamber is made thermally active and preferably consists of capillaries in a ceramic refractory block.
According to a particular embodiment of the invention, the internal air is ejected by tubes provided with small orifices, fixed to the upper wall of the container and welded inside a main duct along the intersection between the vertical wall and the upper wall, their dimensions being defined according to the volume of air to be treated per unit of time. In this embodiment, the internal air is sucked in by a propulsion device, preferably an axial fan whose l low pressure inlet is connected to the main floor duct and whose high pressure outlet is connected to the oxidation system by capillaries, the neutralization of positive ions being carried out by thermionic emission of electrons, while the entire system is connected to the main duct on the upper wall, and that the propulsion element is controlled by an electronic circuit which correlates the variable parameters in the cham sterilization bre in such a way that oxidation is carried out in its optimal form, the oxidation system and the propulsion and control system being powered by energy supplied by photovoltaic panels mounted near the container.
According to an alternative embodiment of the invention, the oxidation system is inside the container and housed in an adiabatic chamber in order to protect the container from heat and to optimize the oxidation process.
The present invention thus works by collecting the air inside the container by tubes containing micro-perforations welded to the main duct on the floor of the container. This main conduit is connected to the low pressure inlet of the propellant element. The high pressure outlet of the propellant is connected to the oxidation and ionization chamber. Sterilization and neutralization of positive ions is carried out in this chamber, which is provided with appropriately polarized capillaries and an acceleration anode.
The propulsion element is controlled by means of an electronic circuit which establishes the period of time during which the air remains in the chamber with its outlet flow through the conduits. The outlet of the sterilization and ionization chamber is connected to the main duct in the upper wall, to which the micro-perforated tubes intended for the ejection of the process air are welded.
