Description

Projectile explosif à enveloppe préfragmentée
d'efficacité accrue et procédé de réalisation.
Explosive projectile with pre-fragmented envelope
increased efficiency and method of production.

The present invention relates to explosive projectiles with a pre-fragmented casing and in particular an explosive projectile with a casing of the type comprising pre-fragmented metal rings, with increased efficiency.

Explosive projectiles with envelopes with superimposed metal rings pre-fragmented on their periphery are known. However, it can be seen that confining the explosive charge of these explosive projectiles is rarely sufficient and that it weakens and even sometimes stops the detonation capable of detonating said projectile.

The invention aims to remedy this drawback by improving the confinement of the explosive charge of these projectiles, in particular to avoid these detonation stops.

The invention also aims to improve the distribution of the fragments during the explosion by opening the sheaf of fragments as much as possible so that the probability of hitting a given target placed randomly around the burst point is greater. .

The subject of the invention is in fact an explosive projectile with a casing of the type comprising superimposed pre-fragmented metal rings, characterized in that, seen to increase the efficiency of its explosion, it comprises
- a thin metal sheath, in very close adherent contact with the internal face of the rings and
- an explosive charge initiation relay intended to cause the detonation of this charge, located in the axis of the envelope close to mid-length, inside the main explosive charge.

The positioning of the priming relay of the main charge in the axis, and at about half the length of the enclosed charge allows to distribute the detonation wave upstream and downstream of the priming tablet and contributes to open the angle of the sheaf of explosions.

The plating of the sheath on the internal face of the rings is preferably carried out by isostatic, hydraulic or pneumatic compression, carried out inside this sheath.

To improve the speed of the flakes, one can coat all the rings with a second sheath, preferably metallic, pressed very firmly on the outer periphery of the rings. This second sheath can also be the membrane with an external coating of the envelope of the explosive projectile.

The plating of this sheath on the rings is preferably carried out by circumferential iso static hydraulic compression.

An exemplary embodiment of an explosive projectile according to the invention is described below, without implied limitation and with reference to the appended drawing, in which:
- The single figure is a partial sectional view of an explosive projectile envelope according to the invention.

As shown in this figure, the envelope of the explosive projectile according to the invention comprises a set of pre-fragmented metal rings 1, namely serrated at their periphery with weak point of rupture between each tooth. These rings are superposed coaxially and form the main structure of the envelope.

An external metallic membrane 2, of small thickness and of defined resistance, externally coats said rings 1. This membrane is pressed very firmly to the surface of the outer circumference of the rings, for example, by isostatic circumferential hydraulic compression.

A thin metal internal sheath 3 covers the internal bore of all of the rings 1.

The intimate contact of the sheath 3 on this bore is produced by expansion of the sheath by means of isostatic, hydraulic or pneumatic compression inside this sheath.

The outer membrane 2 and the inner sheath 3 jointly contribute to the perfect cohesion of the rings 1, one with respect to the other, and provide the envelope thus formed with a certain rigidity, conducive to the propagation of the detonation.

In charge 4 is provided the relay 5 for initiating the detonation, which is connected to the detonator 6 by a channel 7. The relay 5 for initiating the explosive charge is located substantially in the middle of the explosive charge 4.

At the initiation of the detonator 6, the detonation wave is transmitted through the channel 7 to the ignition relay 5, then to the explosive charge 4 upstream and downstream of the latter. The detonation wave is thus almost isotropic and the angle of opening of the resulting burst of shrapnel is consequently widened.

The present invention thus provides a highly offensive, high-explosive explosive projectile.
