Description

APPAREIL D'EXERCICE MUSCULAIRE
MUSCLE EXERCISE APPARATUS
The invention relates to a muscular exercise device of the type in which the user has at his disposal two maneuvering arms which he can, as the case may be, bring together or move against the force of biasing means coupled to said arms. The invention relates more particularly to a new simple and inexpensive arrangement of a connection mechanism between said operating arms and the biasing means.

In certain muscular exercise machines of the type in question, the maneuvering arms are constantly brought back away from one another or, on the contrary, towards each other, symmetrically with respect to a fixed plane of reference, by the force of biasing means generally comprising masses, of overall weight adjustable by their number, hung on the end of a flexible link (cable or strap) connected to a link mechanism itself coupled to said arms. This linking mechanism can take the most varied forms, using a greater or lesser number of pulleys, cables, chains, gears, etc.

They are therefore remarkable for their complexity (gears) and / or for their lack of "reversibility". For example, a cable connection only allows the device to be used in one type of movement, resulting in traction on this cable.

One of the aims of the invention is to propose a new device in which the connection mechanism is both simple and robust, efficient and inexpensive.

Another object of the invention is that this linking mechanism is reversible in the sense defined above, in order to allow the device to be versatile or to propose different devices using common structural elements.

In this spirit, the invention therefore relates to a muscular exercise apparatus comprising two maneuvering arms mounted to rotate about respective parallel axes and connected to biasing means by a connecting mechanism acting in a direction tending to move said arms apart or closer together. , characterized in that said connecting mechanism comprises a cam pivotally mounted around a shaft perpendicular to said parallel axes and around which is wound a flexible link belonging to said biasing means, one end of said link being fixed to the edge of said cam and in that the two operating arms are connected to said cam by rigid rods, respectively articulated with the two arms on the one hand and with said cam on the other hand.

The joints provided at the ends of the rods can be known mechanical subsets available commercially. Ball bearings with pivoting cages can be used. Preferably, conventional ball joints will be used comprising an outer ring provided with an open semi-spherical recess, in which an inner ring secured to an axis, is subject to pivot on itself. The axis passes through an opening in the outer cage and is fixed to an operating arm or to the cam, depending on the end concerned of the link.

The invention will be better understood and other advantages thereof will appear more clearly in the light of the following description of an embodiment of an arrangement in accordance with its principle, given solely by way of example and made with reference to the accompanying drawing in which
- The single figure is a schematic perspective view of the essential elements of a muscle exercise device according to the principle of the invention.

The apparatus 11 shown comprises two operating arms 12 mounted rotating around respective parallel axes 13, here vertical. These arms are connected to biasing means 14 by a connection mechanism 15 essentially comprising a cam 16 and two rigid links 17, 18.

The biasing means here consist of a flexible link, in this case a strap 20, one end of which is fixed at 21 to the cam 16, so as to be able to wind around it. The strap 20 is also wound around a pulley 23 with a horizontal axis and supports a certain number of masses 24 totaling a weight chosen by the user. The belt could be linked to a spring system without the device leaving the scope of the invention. The cam 16 is flat as a whole, while having a certain thickness which defines a surface 26 on which the strap 20 is wound. The cam is pivotally mounted around a shaft 28 perpendicular to the axes 13 of the operating arms 12. The shaft 28 is therefore here horizontal. The operating arms 12 are symmetrical with respect to a plane parallel to their axes 13 and the cam 16 admits a median plane of symmetry P (perpendicular to the surface 26) coincides with the plane of symmetry operating arms. Each of the breaks 1 ': (' St (t) tldé ai in the vicinity of its axis 13 and the end of the smallest section 12a of this arm is connected to the cam 16. According to the invention, the operating arms 12 (and more particularly the free ends of the sections 12a) are connected to the cam 16 by the rigid rods 17, 18, respectively articulated to said operating arms on the one hand, and to said cam on the other hand. rods are articulated symmetrically with respect to the median plane P defined above They are articulated at the ends of two axes 30a, 30b integral with the cam 16 and located in the extension of one another, parallel to the shaft 28. These two axes may be formed by a single axis passing through the cam. As mentioned above, the joints at the ends of each link are materialized by ball joints 32, known per se. Thus, as regards each ball joint 32, connecting the link 17 or 18 at the end of section 12a of the corresponding arm, it is noted that this ball joint has an outer ring 33 secured to the link and in which is formed a cavity with a spherical surface or an inner ring 34 provided with a spherical surface adapted to that of the cavity. The outer ring 33 has a circular window from which emerges an axis 35 integral with said ring and fixed to the end of the section 12a of the operating arm.

Le montage de chaque rotule 32 liée à la came est semblable, l'axe 30a ou 30b jouant le rôle de l'axe 35.The axis 35 is parallel to the axis of rotation of the arm. The mounting of each ball joint 32 linked to the cam is similar, the axis 30a or 30b playing the role of the axis 35.

The operation is very simple and follows clearly from the above description. The apparatus, as just described, is more particularly intended for the exercise of the inner leg muscles. The operating arms 12 are therefore urged away from one another by the action of the masses 24 and the exercise consists in bringing these operating arms closer together by bringing the legs towards each other, the user being for example seated above the operating arms 12.

The effort which the user must provide at each point of the stroke of the operating arms 12 is predetermined by the profile of the cam 16, that is to say more particularly by the evolution of the distance between the surface 26 and the shaft 28. as the belt 20 is wound on this surface. It should be noted that the arrangement can easily be modified to allow other exercises involving spreading the operating arms 12 instead of bringing them together. To do this, it suffices to change the direction of winding of the belt on the cam, the action of the masses 24 resulting in lln approximation in rotat-iorl (hws operating arm 12.
