Abstract

The reduction gear has a casing (2) which has a base (3) surrounded by a peripheral wall (4). The casing is open on the side opposed to the base (2). Inside the casing (2) is a pinion (5) designed to mesh with a toothed wheel (6) mounted on a shaft (7) through the casing (2) and its base (3). The pinion is mounted on a spindle (12) which is held at one end in a sleeve (13) fixed in the base (3) of the casing (2). A cover (16) is placed over the casing (2) on the side opposite to the base (3). The cover can be removed and is of reduced thickness. In the area of the pinion the cover has increased thickness (17) on its inside face in which is formed a blind hole (18) designed to locate the other end of the spindle (12) on which the pinion is mounted. The increase in thickness of the cover is achieved by fixing a machined plate (19) to it. The fixing is done using studs formed in the plate (19) which are pressed into holes drilled in the cover. ADVANTAGE - Reduction is of light and economic construction and is capable of producing the high torque required by automobile accessories.
