Abstract

The invention monitors and controls consumption of electrical power. It consists of the following items mounted on a chassis or inside a cabinet, together with all the necessary electrical connections. Firstly, an apparatus for measuring current, power or consumption of electricity capable of onward transmission both of the measurements carried out and of the times at which they are made in a form exploitable by a data processing system. Secondly, a device capable of recording the information supplied by the aforesaid apparatus on a data-processing medium. Terminals and leadthroughs for the cables are provided for the electrical connections. One embodiment of the invention consists of a cabinet containing a "wattmeter" which digitises the power measurements carried out, a microprocessor which controls and determines the times of the measurements, and a disc drive. The invention uses the processed recorded data to determine what action should be taken to limit the expenditure on electric current to what is strictly necessary.
