Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an arrangement of metallic wire cables for elastomeric products. Such arrangements which are formed either in strands or in cables consisting of strands or cables are used as reinforcement for deformable articles made of elastomeric material such as tires for heavy vehicles or passenger cars, conveyor belts and pipes under pressure. The wires used for this purpose consist mainly of steel filaments with a carbon content of between 0.65 and 0.90% and which have been drawn to very small diameters during one or more drawing processes. In general, these diameters are between 0.10 and 0.40 mm. In order to obtain better adhesion with the elastomeric material, the filaments are covered with an advantageously brass plating. These filaments are then stranded, twisted or cabled, it being understood that the following manufacturing procedures must be understood for these terms: - stranding: twisting in a single or double pitch of n filaments
around either a material central filament (strand type
1 + n), or around an imaginary axis (strand of type nx) for
make a strand. In this way, the outer filaments get
find themselves in linear contact with each other and the
neutral zone of each individual filament describes a line
helical around the central filament or axis.
par un toron.- twisting: twisting of the strands to a cable, according to the same principle as
to strand and so that each filament is replaced
by a strand.
naire. - wiring: twisting of the filaments in one or more layers around
a central filament, a central strand or an imagi
nary.
In all cases, the twisting can be carried out with the same form of winding or with opposite forms.
As another embodiment, provision may be made, depending on the type of use, for a spiral filament with a single helix around the strands, cables or cabling.
- une meilleure productivité;
rouille;
l'usure et de l'apparition des signes de fatigue;
In addition to products in the form of threads, generally known and used for the reinforcement of elastomers, modifications have been recently developed of these standard arrangements, to satisfy the high requirements to which this range of products is subject. :
- better productivity;
- better penetration of rubber into the cable product at
during vulcanization, which reduces the permeability to humi
which causes a decrease in adhesion and the formation of
rust;
- an improvement in the mechanical properties of the cable product such as
for example an increase in resistance and a decrease in
wear and the appearance of signs of fatigue;
Mention may be made, as an example, of the following patents which describe products or processes having analogies with the products according to the invention.
"Strands" of groups of cable steel filaments each consisting of two parallel wires are described in German patent application DE-A-30 14 190. Single strand steel cables in which three wires steel arranged parallel to each other and generally located in a flat surface, form an untwisted strand which is surrounded by a fourth steel wire, are known from the Luxembourg patent LU-A-82 707. British patent GB-A-2,098,251 relates to cables consisting of two groups of at least two steel filaments, the two groups being strands around one another and forming substantially similar spirals not and of the same shape.
The filaments of the first group are generally untwisted. The filaments of the second group are, on the contrary, twisted with each other, the pitch having the same direction as well as substantially the same value as the pitch of the spirals mentioned above. German patent application DE-A-2 044 665 describes a steel cord, the core of which has several cords and which comprises several external strands wound around the core, the cords of the core being arranged in parallel 'to each other to form an untwisted strand.
The object of the invention is to provide an arrangement of cables made of metal wires which satisfies the requirements mentioned above and which is easy to produce and can be worked on later without problem.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the arrangement comprises as a straight central axis a bundle of at least two untwisted filaments which are arranged parallel to one another and are permanently in linear contact and around of which at least two individual filaments are wound in a spiral while also having a linear contact.
In another variant, according to other advantageous embodiments of the invention, the first and second groups of steel filaments each consist of two filaments or else, the first group consists of three filaments and the second group of two filaments .
Alternatively, the first group may consist of four filaments and the second group of two filaments.
The isolated filaments have in principle the same diameter but it is also possible to use filaments of different diameters. The winding pitch is advantageously equal to 30 to 100 times the diameter of the individual wire. The type of strand according to the invention is of the form n // + m //, n being the number of core filaments and m the number of wound filaments. The strands can, where appropriate, be further worked to make cables.
l'invention;
quatre torons élémentaires selon la figure 1.Other objects, advantages and characteristics of the invention will appear on reading the description of an embodiment, given without limitation and with reference to the accompanying drawing or:
- Figure 1 is a side view of a section of a strand along
the invention;
- Figure 2 shows the sections along lines AA 'to D-D'
of figure 1 and
- Figure 3 is a side view of a section of a type of
possible twisting, here represented in a wiring of
four elementary strands according to FIG. 1.
filaments, continue à être assuré.FIG. 1 schematically represents an embodiment of the invention in which two parallel central filaments 1, 2 are surrounded by two wound filaments 3, 4. It should be noted here that:
- the two parallel central filaments 1, 2 are arranged in
general in a straight line. In practice, during the
strands, these filaments can be somewhat
deformed on their outside face in the guiding devices
strands and draw but the parallelism with the contact
line of peripheral contact lines between the two
filaments, continues to be insured.
ment stable avec un cercle d'enveloppe de forme générale ronde.- the wound filaments are arranged around the central filaments
and are in linear contact with each other. It follows
that during the rotation, it's always the same filament
coiled outside which is arranged at the head. This characteristic
appears clearly on the sections of figure 2. We can
deduce that this embodiment leads to a mechanical strand
stable with a generally round envelope circle.
With regard to the technological advantages of this arrangement of strands, it should be emphasized that for an envelope circle diameter, in optical measurement, which is at most 25% larger than that of an equivalent closed standard strand of 4x type , this kind of strand allows 100% penetration of rubber during vulcanization.
The adhesion losses caused by the penetration of moisture along the strand are thus greatly reduced. In addition, the internal friction in the strand is extremely low due to the application pressures distributed regularly over the contact surfaces of the two groups of filaments.
On the other hand, the stability and rigidity of this arrangement are comparable with those of the 4x type firm strand and even better than those of modifications of traditional closed strands.
An example. subsequent processing of the arrangement of the strands according to the invention is shown in Figure 3 or four strands according to Figure 1 are twisted into a cable.
Of course, the present invention is not limited to the embodiments described and shown and it is capable of numerous variants accessible to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention.
