Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to traps for flying insects, such as hornets, wasps, mosquitoes, etc ..., whose bites, very painful, are sometimes fatal, and can transmit serious diseases.
Among the methods currently known for destroying or capturing these insects, some use sprayed chemicals, more or less toxic, effective, but expensive and dangerous; others use luminous exterminating devices, killing insects by electrocution, therefore dangerous; others still use kinds of decanters, open at their lower part by retaining a sweet sugar; they are ineffective during the day and not at all at night.
The trap according to the invention makes it possible to avoid these disadvantages: no toxic product, no risk of electric shock, no more than a simple portable lamp. It is effective during the day by simple addition of sweet products, at night by any process making it bright from the inside, such as an electric lamp powered by the sector or others.
The accompanying drawing is a sectional view of two models of flying insect traps (Fig. I and 2) by way of non-limiting example, in accordance with the present invention.
The trap (fig. 1) seen in section at the height of a support is constituted by a container 1, the rectangular section of which may be any; this can be a vase, a can, a bottle, etc ..., open on its upper part, allowing to fix and introduce therein in a removable way, two plates 2 and 3, preferably transparent , such as glass, glass, plastic, etc., obstructing, level with or exceeding the upper part 4 of the container, penetrating a certain length 5 inside of it, forming a certain angle X with the vertical axis Z of the container, useful for the proper functioning of the trap, leaving between them at their lower ends penetrating into the container, a spacing Y, depending on the size of the insects to be trapped.
The plates are held in place by one or two "V" shaped supports 6, the thinnest and narrowest possible, removable and fixed on each side of the container; they hold the plates on the one hand, at the most efficient angle X, and, on the other hand, the spacing Y at each of their ends, spacing according to the size of the insects to be trapped.
Likewise, according to the invention, FIG. 2 seen in section, shows a trap with cylindrical section 7 or of any section, characterized in that the plates 2 and 3 of FIG. 1 can advantageously be replaced with a similar product, but having the shape of a truncated cone 8 or any truncated pyramid, the truncated part of which is a function of the size of the insects to be trapped and the base 9 of which is in the best position fixed in a removable manner at the top of the container, the truncated part 10, forming a funnel inside of it.
The operation of the trap, according to Figures 1 and 2 can be explained as follows: flying insects attracted, by day, by sweet products such as jam, lemonade, beer or syrup, etc ...; at night, attracted and dazzled by a light or glow emitted from the interior of the container forming a trap, approach by fluttering above it; some enter directly, most are unbalanced when one of their wings touches the plates fixed at an angle or the top of the funnel-shaped trap. They are then precipitated inside and are unable to come out, by the fact that the spacing Y, left between the plates 2 and 3 or the truncated part 10 is insufficient to allow the insects to escape when their wings are deployed.
For daytime traps, a simple supply of stagnant liquid at the bottom of the trap is sufficient in most cases to drown insects. For those operating at night, according to a characteristic of the invention, whose lighted lamp and fixed inside the trap is powered by an electric current, sector or others, this trap becomes self-destructive. Tests show that a trap with an approximate capacity of two liters is enough to kill the most dangerous insects, especially hornets, without the addition of liquid or toxic products. Higher capacity makes this feature random.
The traps forming the subject of the present invention can be used in all residential dwellings, both in town and in the countryside; their operation is safe, silent; they are compact and inexpensive.
They can be manufactured by any person, in a few minutes for traps operating during the day, and in a good hour for traps operating at night, using recovery objects, such as cans, plastic bottles or others; being relatively inexpensive, a large number of them can be placed in the house, on windows, outside terraces, or hanging from trees in the garden.
During the day, they attract and capture wasps and other unwanted insects by drowning them in a liquid; similarly at night, they trap flying insects, especially hornets and mosquitoes, luring them into the trap by a light and killing them; serving as a bedside lamp or placed under a light source, they rid the rooms where you live of all unwanted insects.
