Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a machine intended for removing from the product collected by harvesting machines, the leaves and branches which are mixed with the bunches and isolated grains.
We know that to remedy the labor costs involved in the traditional hand harvesting of grape bunches during the harvest, we have imagined machines that perform this work mechanically.
But these machines do not include means allowing them to distinguish with certainty the grapes from the vegetation that surrounds them.
The product they collect is thus constituted by a mixture of clusters, isolated grains, leaves and branches. It is of course necessary to remove from this product the leaves and branches before proceeding to the subsequent operations of the winemaking process.
The invention aims to produce a machine which ensures this elimination of undesirable elements from the harvested product, in a particularly simple, rapid and satisfactory manner.
According to the invention, this machine essentially comprises a conveyor, preferably a conveyor, suitable for receiving the product to be treated and from the downstream end from which it normally falls into an appropriate outlet device (tank, hopper, conveyor supply air, etc ...), a blowing system applying an air jet obliquely upwards and forwards relative to the conveyor to the sheet of product falling from the conveyor, the supply pressure of this system being such that the leaves are entrained by air, but on the contrary the clusters and the isolated grains continue their fall, a rotating cage with horizontal axis and longitudinal bars, disposed in front of the downstream end of the conveyor at a distance from the latter just sufficient for the passage of the bunches and grains, the direction of rotation of this cage being such that its bars drive the branches which, due to their length and the action of the jet d air on the leaves attached to them, tend to continue their journey in a straight line beyond the conveyor, and means for releasing these branches from the rotating cage and causing them to fall back beyond the device for removing the bunches and grains.
In a preferred embodiment, the means for releasing the branches from the rotating cage consist of a second rotating cage, disposed immediately beyond the first and which takes the branches that are entrained by the latter.
The two rotating cages can be ordered by chains or belts from the transporter.
The appended drawing, given by way of example, will allow a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is capable of providing.
The single figure of this drawing shows in very schematic section a machine established in accordance with the invention.
A. The machine shown comprises first of all a horizontal conveyor 1, of the so-called belt type and of which only the downstream end has been shown with its return drum 2 mounted on a drive shaft 3. This conveyor receives at a point along its length located further upstream, the product from the harvesting machine, either directly or via a feed hopper ensuring the regularity of its loading. Due to the linear speed of the belt or strip, at the downstream end of the conveyor 1 the product is projected forward and falls down following a curve resembling a parabolic arc, as indicated in A.
Under the drum 2 and a little in front of it is arranged an air blowing nozzle 4 supplied by a fan schematically indicated at 5. The nozzle 4 is oriented obliquely upwards, and the air jet that it determines (arrow 6) thus strikes the product which falls at A, approximately normally in the direction of movement thereof.
In front of the conveyor 1, therefore to the left of the return drum 2 in the drawing, and a little above the level of the shaft 3, the machine comprises another horizontal shaft 7 on which is mounted a cylindrical cage 8 made of two end flanges such as 9 joined by longitudinal bars 10. The shaft 7 is connected to the shaft 3 by means of a chain or belt 11 which is wound on pulleys or pinions suitable wedges on said trees outside the drum 2 and the cage 8.
There is also provision for a third tree 12 to rotate in front of the shaft 7 (so on the left in the drawing) and a little above
this one. The two shafts 7 and 12 are connected to each other by a chain or belt such as 13. The shaft 12 carries a second rotating cage 14 established like the previous one, that is to say with flanges end 15 and longitudinal bars 16, but having a diameter much smaller than that of the cage 8. The two cages 14 and 8 are arranged very close to each other.
Finally, there is shown in 17 a vertical screen whose upper edge, slightly oblique, engages between the two cages.
The operation is as follows
The conveyor 1 is of course driven so that its useful strand moves to the left (arrow 18), since its end shown in the drawing is that of downstream, as indicated above. The chains or belts 11 and 13 drive the cages 8 and 14 in the sinistrorsum direction, represented by the arrows 19 and 20.
The product brought by the conveyor 1 and which falls back in A following a parabolic path, contains clusters, grains, isolated leaves and branches or branches still integral with leaves.
With regard to the insulated sheets, the air current 6 drives them upwards, as indicated in 21 and as shown by the arrow 22. Therefore they pass over the cages and come to fall to the left of the screen 17. They are thus eliminated from the product.
As regards now the branches with leaves, that is to say comprising a straight or twisted rod such as 23 with leaves 24 which are attached to it, when they arrive towards the drum 2, because of their length they tend to continue their journey in a straight line. Besides, the air current 6 which strikes their sheets 24 tends to raise their protruding ends. They therefore move to the left above the parabolic path A, so that their ends are taken up by the bars 10, lifted and driven. From the cage 8 these branches thus arrive at the cage 14 (position indicated in 23 ′) and the latter causes them to tilt to the left beyond the screen 17.
Consequently, the leaves and the branches are thus eliminated from the product which falls from the conveyor 1, so that the receptacle (hopper, tank, second conveyor, etc.), shown in bare form, receives more than isolated clusters or grains.
Of course, in order for this result to be obtained regularly, the blowing pressure applied to the nozzle 4 must be adjusted properly. This pressure must be sufficient to drive the leaves upwards and to lift the protruding ends of the branches emerging from the conveyor. 1, but never entrain the clusters or grains. At most, the air jet 6 can contribute to imposing on these clusters and grains the curved path which has been shown in
A, which favors the separation of the leaves.
It should moreover be understood that the foregoing description has been given only by way of example, and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart by replacing the details of execution described by all other equivalents. It is understood first of all that despite the advantage of having the conveyor 1 in the form of a mat for the tracking speed it allows, any other equivalent mechanism could be used, for example an Archimedes screw rotating at an appropriate speed. The bars of the cage 8 could be profiled with sharp edges to better entrain the branches. There could be provided between the two cages 8 and 14 a baffle or deflector system preventing the branches from being accidentally driven downward between the two cages. The control of the cages could be carried out in any suitable manner, for example using one or two separate motors. Several successive nozzles 4 may be provided to ensure better elimination of the sheets, even if these fall between the screen 17 and the receptacle 25.
