Abstract

Prodn. of an inert organic material, useful as a substrate for soils and growing surfaces or as a constituent of fertilisers, comprises use of particles of all types of ligno-cellulosic waste (opt. with bark) or separated bark, which are (a) sterilised by heating at a hgih temp. (pref. 300-700 deg.C in a current of air); (b) treated mechanically to reduce particle size; (c) treated chemically with a calcium salt and then with a soluble silicate or silicates, whilst the pH is controlled to have a value of 6-7 in the final prod. Inert organic material used to modify the nature of soils or as a growth substrate e.g. in soil-less cultures. The material is particularly useful in improving the growth qualities of clay soils and avoiding shrinkage and cracking. It may be used as an inert constituent in fertilisers.

Description

The invention relates to a material made of granules, in layers or in particles, usable as an inert substrate in soils or growing or indoor or indoor planes or as an inert component in a fertilizer or in any substance intended to modify the nature of the soil or to provide it with the necessary qualities.

The invention also relates to the method of manufacturing such a material.

Certains sols, notamment ceux à caractère argileux, sc prêtent mal à ta culture en raison de leurs propriétés physiques : agglomérats imperméables ... . Some soils, especially those of a clayey nature, sc lend to your culture badly because of their physical properties: impermeable agglomerates .... The incorporation of fertilizers is not enough to significantly modify their physical properties to transform them into cultivated soils.

Only a major amendment, specifically dosed, could give these soils some qualities.

Unfortunately, the high price of solid fertilizers and fertilizer compositions, even in small proportions, does not allow them to be used continuously in large volumes.

In addition, the incorporation of another type of soil into a soil does not necessarily lead to the desired result.

Thus, a soil with a clay character will practically retain its properties even if it is provided with good quality soil for cultivation.

In addition, this technique requires the displacement and mixing of large volumes.

The object of the invention is to remedy these drawbacks by proposing an inert material to be used directly as a culture substrate or to be incorporated into any fertilizing substance. It can also be used as a basic component in a strong fertilizer requiring mitigation before being incorporated into the soil.

The invention firstly relates to the process for the manufacture of such a material characterized by the use of lignocellulosic waste of any kind, products or by-products sterilized by a high temperature heat treatment followed by a treatment mechanical reduction of particles and a chemical treatment known as hydrophysis by the action of a calcium salt of strong acid then of a soluble silicate by controlling and acting on the value of the parameter of hydrogen potential to maintain it in the final state of the product between 6 and 7.

This produces an inert material, dimensionally stable, free from any tendency to deterioration by fermentation, a material which gives the soil additional qualities.

By its structure and its physical qualities, the material according to the invention promotes the three essential elements of life: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen.

Its hydrophilic nature allows water retention by absoption, much sought after in the hygrometric balance of soils. Its incompressibility increases aerobic soil. Its qualities of thermal insulation ensure the stabilization of the floors in temperature. In particular, it avoids the batting crust of clay soils by eliminating the linear shrinkage tensions.

bactérien;
racines;
l'amplification du phénomène de rhizogénèse;
It has interesting active properties that promote plant development by
creating an environment favorable to development
bacterial;
the appropriate dispersion and distribution of all
soluble fertilizers without fear of suffocation
roots;
amplification of the rhizogenesis phenomenon;
maintaining optimal humidity conditions and
temperature in the soil near the roots.

Its perfectly inert and stable character with respect to the culture medium makes its use free from organic or chemical side reactions.

Due to the fiber sterilization treatment, it does not add any toxic or pathogenic elements to the soil.

- cultures hors sol
- cultures en pots - art'oi' i CtJ |
The applications of this material in culture and agriculture are multiple
- row crops
- vegetable crops
- above-ground crops
- pot cultures - art'oi 'i CtJ |
- use in layers of mulch and, in general, it applies to any difficult crop, for example in soils which are not very rich or which have unfavorable physical properties.

Its low cost price makes the use of this material accessible to all, both in the family garden and in industrial culture.

Other technical characteristics and advantages of the invention are recorded in the description which follows, relating to an embodiment of the manufacturing process and of the inert organic matter according to the invention.

Before beginning the description of the process, it is necessary to recall the particularly vast extent of the field of raw materials. It covers all lignocellulosic materials: products, waste, by-products of all kinds, in particular isolated bark, wood waste with or without bark, plant stems.

The method according to the invention consists in subjecting the materials, waste or other, lignocellulosic, previously ground into pieces, a heat treatment by passage through a flame without combustion or passage through a stream of hot air brought to a temperature between 3000 C and 7000 C until dehydration.

These pieces are reduced simultaneously or later in a crusher or grinder into particles with a particle size between 1 - 15 mm.

Then, either by spraying or by immersion, a chemical treatment is carried out by the action of a solution of a calcium salt of strong acid, preferably with calcium chloride. The acid concentration of this solution immobilizes the fibers.

A soluble silicate is then made to act, for example a solution of potassium or sodium silicate, or the mixture of the two, in variable quantity but in proportion of the order of three times more calcium ehlolurt, in order to maintain the Ph between 6 and 7 in final phase, for example 6.8 for coniferous waste.

We control the evolution of the value of
Ph so that its value in the final product is between 6 and 7.

There is thus formed, inside the particles, a real coagulation by precipitation of calcium silicate, hard and insoluble limestone salt ensuring the material a perfect dimensional and organic stability.

The invention also relates to the product obtained by the implementation of the method described above.

The material thus obtained will find multiple applications, including those indicated above, in the field of small and large scale culture.

The invention described above cannot be limited to the characteristics indicated, it is understood that it must extend to various simple modifications, substitutions by equivalent means and other direct variants without inventive contribution.
