Abstract

The joint is formed from two halves (1,2) which fit together and have an 'O'-ring seal (3) between them. One half (2) has a conical shear ring (22) attached to the main body by a section (25) of reduced diameter. The two halves are assembled with the 'O'-ring in position until the shear ring (22) makes contact with the face of the nut (12) of the other half joint (1). Further pressure (in the direction of the arrows 4) causes the ring (22) to shear at the junction (24) with the reduced section.
