Abstract

Alcohols are prepd. as in the Parent Patent by reacting CO with H2 using a catalyst comprising at least (a), Cu (b) Co (c) at least one of Cr, Fe, V and Mn, (d) rare earth metal(s) and (e) alkali(ne earth) metal(s). A prod. (I) comprising 80-90 wt.% methanol and 10-20% higher homologues is added directly to petrol. 14-20 wt.% (I) is used per 100 pts. final fuel. The mixt. (I) pref. comprises 82-87% methanol and 13-18% higher homologues.

Claims (2)
