Abstract

The portable refrigerator uses an electrically (3) powered Peltier effect thermo element (2) to provide cool air or heating, as required, and has the internal space divided into two compartments by a partition (9) which is offset towards one end of the unit, making one compartment larger than the other. The cover (1), which has the battery, thermo element and circulation fan (15) mounted at one end, is constructed to be thicker in the region of these fittings and thinner across the unoccupied half of its width (12). With the lid fitted so its thin part is over the partition (9) the lid clearance over the partition allows cool air to circulate in the entire volume. If however the lid is reversed, the thicker part rests on the partition and isolates the smaller part of the volume if it is to be heated, while the other part acts as an insulated cool chamber.
