Abstract

The lock is mounted on the shaft (5) of a drive motor and consists of an inner cone (1) fixed with a pin (7). The inner cone has a slot into which fits a ring of ball bearings (13). An outer cone (9) forms the hub of a pulley and fits over the inner cone (1). The outer cone has an internal groove (17) into which expands the ring of ball bearings (13). The expansion is achieved by a tapered plug (19) which has a spindle (27) passing through the top (25) of the pulley hub. The taper plug is spring loaded to ensure the expansion of the ball bearings. To dismantle the assembly, the plug is extracted using a hub puller under the head (29) of the spindle (27).
