Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a colored plastic sheet of shimmering appearance and having reflections similar to those presented by certain fabrics such as silk.
It is well known to produce sheets of translucent or transparent colored plastic materials. In general, these sheets have as smooth a surface as possible. These leaves always have an aspect which leaves no doubt as to the nature of the constituent material and is in no way close to that of a fabric such as silk.
The present invention aims to provide a colored plastic sheet of shimmering appearance and having reflections similar to those presented by certain fabrics such as silk.
These are reflections which can also be qualified as satin or velvety and coming from a variation in color, depth or intensity of coloring depending on the incidence of the light reflected by the visible face of the sheet.
To this end, the invention relates to a sheet made of a transparent colored plastic material which has on one of its faces, a matt surface finish.
Any plastic material capable of allowing the formation of a transparent or translucent sheet under a thickness of 10 mm may be suitable for producing the plastic sheet according to the invention. Examples of such plastics include resins based on polyvinyl chloride or vinyl chloride copolymers, polyurethane resins, polyolefins, cellulose resins, acrylic resins, polyamide resins and polyester resins. Among these, resins based on polyvinylchloride or on vinyl chloride copolymers and polyurethane resins are preferred.
These plastics may contain usual additives such as plasticizers, stabilizers, fillers, etc., provided that these products are compatible with the production of transparent sheets as specified above.
The dyes or pigments used to color the sheet according to the invention must also be chosen according to the plastic material used in order to allow the production of transparent colored sheets.
Among the dyes which can be used, mention may be made of basic dyes, acetate dyes, tin dyes, mono- and diazo derivatives, amino-anthraquinone derivatives and dyes of the type of organic metal complexes, the latter being preferred.
The pigments which can be used preferably have a refractive index close to that of the plastic material in which they are incorporated. Most inorganic or organic pigments satisfying this condition may be suitable. It is also possible to use pigments of the opacifying type alone or mixed with the abovementioned coloring materials, that is to say pigments having an index of refraction which is clearly different from that of the plastic material, provided that these are used in very small quantities, preferably n1 not exceeding about 0.5% by weight relative to the weight of the plastic to be colored.
For the choice of dyes and pigments, we will usefully refer to the book "Color and plastics" by J. DELORME and
M.DERIBERE published in 1960 by AMPHORA editions 119 avenue
Parmentier in Paris or an article by MMPEACOCK published in the journal Matiere Plastiche from September 1954 (p.708 to 720) or finally to the tables reproduced on pages 682 et seq.
International Modern Plastics Encyclopedia, vol. 52, NO 10A, 1975-1976, which indicate for each type of plastic the compatible dyes and pigments leading to transparent colored products.
The colored plastic sheet can be produced according to any known technique and mention may, for example, be made of coating or casting on a temporary support from solutions or dispersions, calendering, extrusion or blown extrusion. , deposit by smooth or engraved cylinders, serigraphy, spraying and coating by curtain machine.
The sheet according to the invention must have on one of its faces, a matt surface condition. This matt surface appearance can be imparted to the two faces of the plastic sheet or to only one of these two faces, which in this case is the visible face during use.
This matt surface finish can be obtained in various ways.
Thus, according to a first technique, the plastic sheet can be produced by coating or transfer casting using a mat support such as a mat paper or an endless matte metal strip as a provisional support. This state can also be obtained by varnishing using a matt varnish or a technique leading to matting of the varnish. This state can finally be achieved by mechanical and thermal means such as embossing, embossing or even molding for example by high frequency using a matt silicone imprint.
The sheet according to the invention can be self-supporting or be associated with a support. This support may be constituted by another sheet of plastic material, colored or not, transparent or opaque, by a sheet of plastic material of cellular structure, by a wooden plate or a cellulose derivative, by a metal sheet, by a textile such as a woven or knitted fabric or a nonwoven, this textile being able to be white, colored, printed or produced from yarns or fibers of different colors.
The association between the sheet and the support can be obtained directly by applying the support to the hot plastic material or not yet gelled or crosslinked or even with the intervention of an adhesive, this adhesive being able to be transparent and colored.
The supported or unsupported sheet, standard to the invention is, by its particular aspect, susceptible of numerous applications in particular in the field of embellishment, furniture, leather goods, footwear and decoration.
The sheet according to the invention is also explained in more detail in the following two practical examples given by way of illustration and for the description of which reference will be made to the figures of the accompanying drawings in which
- Fig.1 is a sectional view of a sheet conforming to
the invention made according to the first example
- Fig.2 is a schematic view of an installation for
make the product according to fig. 1

the invention carried out according to the second example.
Exemple 1
Example 1
A colorless paste is produced from an aliphatic polyurethane resin marketed under the name U6366 by the company STAHL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES BV by diluting this resin in a solvent mixture composed of dimethylformamide, toluene and isopropanol and this paste is colored. with 0.40% by weight of the dry resin of benzidine yellow and 0.01: by weight of the dry resin of carbon black. The coloring matters are previously pasted and then ground by passage over a three-cylinder mill in a portion of the dough so as to produce a masterbatch which is then dispersed in the dough. The dry extract of the colored paste is 30% by weight. An adhesive is also produced consisting of a colorless adhesive of the polyurethane type in solution.
1. On a mat transfer paper 1, as shown in fig. 2, a layer of colored paste 3 is deposited by means of a doctor blade on the counterpart 2, the wet weight of deposited paste being 100 g. / m2 wet. The complex thus formed is then dried in a hot air oven 4 and then cooled by passing through a refrigeration chamber 5. Next, a layer of glue 6 is deposited on the assembly, coated side, by means of a scraper on counterpart 7 and on this layer of glue, which is still wet, a woven textile support 8 is then applied. The assembly then passes through an oven 9 which sets the adhesive, then into a cooling chamber 10. After cooling, the coated fabric 11 is separated from the transfer paper 1. This coated fabric observed by its coated side has a shimmering appearance reminiscent of a textile and is particularly suitable for the production of waterproof clothing. This coated fabric is shown in section in FIG. 1.
Exemple 2
Example 2
A first paste is produced, consisting of a mixture of polyvinyl chloride of "crystal clear" quality prepared by emulsion polymerization, of plasticizers (mixture of butyl benzyl phthalate and dioctyl phthalate in 15/50 proportion), of a load of calcium carbonate, of a diluent (deodorized kerosene) and of a barium salt as stabilizer, and this paste is colored by means of 0.8% by weight of the dry resin of phthalocyamine blue and 0, 01% by weight of the dry titanium dioxide resin.
A second paste is also produced which is identical to the previous one but which also contains 1% by weight of the azodicarbonamide resin and an accelerator for the decomposition of this compound.
M345.Finally, a matt varnish having the following composition is prepared
copolymer of vinyl chloride and acetate 10
acrylic resin 5
dimethylformamide 20
methyl ethyl ketone 60
silica 5
The copolymer used is a product marketed by SOLVIC
SA under the name SOLVIC 550GA and acrylic resin a product marketed by ROHM GmbH under the name PLEXIGUM
M345.
On a glossy transfer paper, apply a layer of the first paste and after pregelling a layer of the second paste. On this second still wet layer, a nonwoven fabric is applied and then the assembly is passed through an oven to cause the gelling of the two layers of dough and the expansion of the second layer. After gelling n separates the whole formed from the transfer paper. On the coated side of the whole wavy layer a layer of varnish through a screened cylinder and this at the rate of 5 g / m2 of dry varnish After drying the varnish a fabric coated with polyvinyl chloride is obtained, the coated side of which also has a shimmering appearance reminiscent of a textile and which is particularly suitable for applications in the field of footwear. This coated fabric is illustrated in section in FIG. 3 which shows its successive constituents, namely the nonwoven fabric 12, with a layer of cellular polyvinyl chloride 1-, the decorative layer of transparent and colored polyvinyl chloride 14 and the layer of varnish 15 giving a matt surface state to the coated fabric.
