Abstract

The valve is fitted to the inside surface of a mammary prosthesis, used after a mastectomy. It consists of a short cylinder (1) whose end (1c) is rounded to form the valve seat. An end cap (3) is fitted over the tube and engages in the recess (2). The end of the cup forms the valve diaphragm. The perimeter of the end cup contains several ports (4). After fitting the prosthesis the plug (9) is removed. The inflating fluid is introduced through the inlet (10) forcing open the diaphragm to expose the inlet ports. When inflation is complete the internal pressure re-closes the diaphragm. Finally the protective plug is replaced.
