Abstract

A tool for ultrasonic welding of joints between the ends of thin films is built so that the head of the mobile tool can be maintained at a warm or hot temp. which the piezo electric element producing the oscillations are kept relatively cool, e.g. by local forced ventilation. Esp. claimed for butt jointing successive lengths of 35 mm film for developing and processing in bulk, using bridging pieces coated with a compatible fusible adhesive. The greater efficiency of a warm tool head allows the size and power of the welding tool to be sealed down sufficiently for incorporation into a common multi-stage film prepn. and processing unit.
