Abstract

The signalling marker is for use by shipwrecked sailors, and comprises a bottle (1) of small volume, filled with a compressed gas lighter than air, such as helium, and hermetically sealed. A union (2) incorporating a stop valve (3) on the bottle connects it to a fine elastic hose (4) several metres long, ending at a flexible inflatable balloon (5) clad with material reflecting radar waves. Fixing eyes (6,7) on the bottle secure it to the person or life raft. The internal volume of the hose can be small compared with that of the balloon, and it can be 10 to 15 metres long, while the balloon can be kite-shaped.
