Abstract

A safety tyre has the carcass of a tubeless tyre plus an inner tube sufficient to support the vehicle but too small to be in contact with the tyre unless the latter becomes partially deflated. The inner tube is complex, comprising an annular chamber which can be inflated via a convent valve, and a series of separate chambers in an annular sequence, each inflatable from the first chamber via a non-return valve. The size of the sec. chamber is limited radially by an inextensible cover. The cover of the inner tube may be a two ply nylon fabric with crossed cord axes, esp. of nylon.
