Abstract

The detector senses the approach of a moving component (3) to a stop (4), utilising a luminous screen (7) or similar a sensor (10), to instigate deceleration at a definite distance (d) from the stop. Deceleration time is rationalised by inclining the screen (7) to the feed line (8). The distance (d) from the stop is varied according to component size and mass. A saw (1) may use two-speed motorised rollers (2) to feed a metal section (3) to the sawing station which is precisely defined by a stop (4) on a slide (5). When the nose of the section (3) intersects the screen (7) deceleration is triggered roller (2) speed drops, and the section (3) comes to rest against the stop without excessive impact.
