Abstract

Moulded plastics sandals are mada using mould tools shaped to produce surface effects which resemble conventional shoes of more complex construction, i.e. the upper part of the sandal receives a surface grain to resemble a natural hide: the borders of the sole and heel are indented at one or more levels to imitate the lamellar construction of leather soles, and the zones between the 'joints' are subsequently painted in contrasting colours. Pref. a typical soft leather or other lining is fitted as a moulding insert to improve and disguise the upper face of the moulded sole. The grain finish in the mould tool may be made by electroforming. The heel cavity may be loaded with a skin or fabric insert to produce an integral cover. Improves the appearance of sandals moulded in one piece at relatively low cost from polyurethane resins.
