Abstract

A speed indicator for a motor vehicle is mounted on the dash panel in order to indicate the instantaneous speed to the driver. The graduated scale contains speed bands which are illuminated for indication as the luminous pointer moves across the scale. A speed indicator comprises a scale carrying several graduations (16,17,18) corresponding to different and consecutive speed bands. These constitute numbers on a translucid band (15) on a screen (2) and behind which is located a series of lamps. These are switched by contacts on a drum assembly (9) as the speed changes. A drum (12) with arrowed slots is illuminated by a bulb is rotated via a disc (11). The disc is driven by a notched belt from a disc (9) on a gear assembly (6,7,8) driven from the drive cable. This allows the arrows to indicate against the scale.
