Abstract

The limiting mechanism is concerned with the maximum pressure applied to the brakes of a vehicle esp. the rear brakes. The limiter is intended to prevent locking of the braked wheels. The limiter control is inertia based and consists of a sprung valve (2,3) the supply being via a port (4) to the spring side of the valve. This drives a lever (6) also controlled by a further spring (7) when the vehicle is idling. The valve position is a function of the load on the rear wheels and is controlled by a rod (9) and a spring (12) between the lever and the valve shaft. The pressure exerted by the brakes is limited to that experienced by the action of the valve stem against the lower spring (12). The function with loading is governed by movement of the rod (9) controlled by rotation of a bar (10) articulated with it.
