Abstract

The missile has a nose aerial extendable when the missile is fired, and comprises a body (1) and rear inner casing (2) containing explosive (3). The aerial comprises a hollow tube (8) guided in a ribbed plastics nose piece (5) surrounded by a semi-elastic foam nose (6) inside a sealing nose casing (12), a metallised outer surface of the nose piece and inner contact points (7) of the nose casing forming poles of an electrical firing circuit. The aerial tube (8) is retained retracted by pins (16) which engage in corresponding tube holes, the pins being located in the nose piece and biassed out of the holes by coil springs (17) but retained by the wall of a guide tube for the missile. Once fired from the tube, the pins release the aerial which is extended by a coaxial spring (13) and locked in its extended position by further pins.
