Abstract

The wind turbine has blades (7) twisted in the form of a Mobius strip and mounted in a semicircular configuration with the ends fastened to bearings at the top (10) and bottom (11) of a vertical mast (2). By twisting the blades in this way, self starting is assured. Struts (13) are provided to maintain the blades in the required shape and these struts are connected to bearings (15) located by shoulders (16) on the vertical mast (2). At the bottom of the blades a geared take-off (17,18) is provided to drive an electric generator. A braking device (19) is used to allow access for maintenance and to control overspeeding. Steps (20) are mounted on the mast to allow access to the top of the turbine. A lower mast may be used with this arrangement than is normal. in existing designs.
