Abstract

To leave the teller free to sound an alarm or make his escape during an attempted armed robbery, the device releases an opaque blind, which falls and covers the window of the till. The surrounds of the till must be opaque. The device uses a mechanism similar to a cinematic film transport, meshed in holes along the edges of the blind and actuated by a crank or motor to raise the blind which is wound on a drum mounted above the till window, and once raised, the blind is locked in place by a locking mechanism between the drum and its shaft. In the event of emergency, the teller operates a switch to actuate an electromagnet which releases the locking mechanism between the drum and its shaft leaving the blind free to fall under its own weight.
