Abstract

Steriliser is of the type in which the lenses are placed in a cup-shaped container forming part of the removable cover of a sterilising vessel. Two electrodes are immersed in liq. in the vessel so that electric current passed through the liq. raises its temp. and heats the container. The electrodes are connected to the mains via an injeeral adaptor plug. The cover is now equipped with projecting conductor pins which connect the electrodes to the mains adaptor as the cover is fitted and isolates the electrodes from the power supply as the cover is removed. The cover can pref. be fitted in either of two positions to connect the electrodes to the power supply. In a first position, the path of current is in a straight line through the liq. between electrodes. In a second position, the cover introduces an insulating barrier between the electrodes so that the current has to take a longer path, around the container, from one electrode to the other. System is electrically safe because power can only reach the electrodes when the cover is fitted. It is easy to dismantle for thorough cleaning and can be adjusted to give high temp. short duration sterilisation or low temp. long duration treatment which reduces deposits on lenses.
