Abstract

The shaft revolving shaft enters a co-axial enlarged cylindrical chamber (36) the outboard end of which is both flanged (49) and open. The box has a hollow cylindrical form with axial clearance shaft holes in each of two end walls (44, 52). It also houses two slidable annular plates (42, 43) which are maintained apart by springs (41). The volumes between the plates and the respective end walls (52, 44) contain the stuffings (38, 39). The springs tend to maintain the stuffings in a state of unvarying axial compression.
