Abstract

The foam mixture (4) is disposed in a vessel (2). The height of the foam mixture in the vessel (2) is measured by means of an ultrasonic transducer device (6). Ultrasonic signals are transmitted to the surface of the foam mixture (4) and the reflected signals are received in the ultrasonic transducer device (6). Signals corresponding to the propagation duration of these signals, and thus to the height of the foam mixture (4), are amplified by an amplifier (A) and transmitted to a recording device (R). The amplified signals are also transmitted to an integration device (I). The output signal of the integration device (I) directly corresponds to the rise rate of the foam mixture (4). The rise rate signal is compared with a standardised signal which is stored in a storage device (S). The result of the comparison is produced at the output of a comparator (C) and is visually displayed in another display device (R'). The process and the device permit automatic measurement of the rise rate and thus of the reactivity of the components of the foam mixture.
