Abstract

The map storage system uses a film strip on which individual areas of the map are separately photographed. To store large scale maps of the whole country the country is divided into a number of parallel bands of equal width. These bands are in turn divided into zones of similar length for optical projection. Additional cartographic information, such as town plans may be fitted in between certain zones on the film. The film projecting equipment resembles a book which opens up to form a screen. The film may be wound rapidly or slowly in order to locate a particular spot, and is motor driven. A keyboard is provided on the equipment so that a code corresponding to a particular area may be entered using a number combination. Various different arrangements are possible for the sequence of information on the film strip according to the scale of maps required.
