Abstract

The circumferentially pleated gaiter (10) is made of e.g. rubber and may be used to protect a tie rod and ball joint assembly of a rack and pinion automobile steering gear. The gaiter is demountable by virtue of a continuous wall split (11) parallel to the longitudinal axis, the edges (B1, B2) of the split being connectable by an appropriate fastener. The split or cut may alternatively follow an oblique or a spiralling line, and the fastener may use auto-adhesive strip (12, 13) attached to the abutting edges.
