Abstract

UV hardenable compsns. comprise an epoxy-silane contg. 50-99.99 mole % units of formula (R2)f-SiO chemically combined with 0.01-50 mole % units of formula and an efficient amt. of diaryliodonium salts of formula where R2 and R7 are monovalent organic gps. from 1-13C opt. subst. hydrocarbon gp. cycanoalkyl or perfluoroalkyl gp.; R3 and R4 are H or 1-8C alkyl; R5 is H, 1-8C alkyl or 1-8C alkylene; R6 is a divalent gp. from 1-8C alkylene(ether) or 4-8C carbalkoxy, and when R5 is divalent it can belong to a cycloaliphatic structure with R6; R8 is a 4-20C organic gp. from opt. branched alkyl or haloalkyl; R9 is 1-3C alkyl 1-8C alkoxy, NO2 or halogen; M is a metal(loid); Q is halogen; f is 0-3; q is 0 or 1; h is 1-3; j is 0-2; w is 4-6; u is 1-4; v is 0-3 and u+v=1-4. The compsn. is storage stable and does not require a stabiliser to reduce hardening during storage to a minimum. The compsn. can be used for the prodn. of protective, decorative or insulating coatings, printing inks, sealants, adhesive, photoresists, textile coatings, printing plates, electrical insulator etc.
