Abstract

Butadiene-1, 3 is prepd. by dehydrogenating n-butane opt. mixed with n-butane at 550-650 degrees C in the presence of oxygen an inert diluent and a catalyst contg. oxides of V and Sb deposited on a support. Specifically, the catalyst system comprises (wt. %) 5-20 (7-15) Sb2O3, 2-10 (4-8) V oxide, 4-20 (7-13) Ni oxide, 0.1-1 (0.4-0.6) Th oxide, 0.1-1 (0.4-0.6) Ti oxide and balance support (pref. Al2O3). Apart from being an important monomer, butadiene-1,3 is also used for the synthesis of hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid. The catalyst gives a high productivity of butadiene-1,3, is stable in use, has high mechanical strength and does not require periodic regeneration.
