Abstract

A PAL television receiver is modified to receive a video signal comprising on NTSC chrominance sub-carrier and has a variable phase shift circuit (100) for regulating the colour first connected between the video detector (20) and a sub-carrier filter (50). The circuit (100) comprises a series resistor (11) and shunt resonant circuit (17) switched into circuit by a series transistor (120) during the line suppression intervals to vary the phase of the colour burst signals relative to the modulated sub-carrier. The parallel resonant circuit (17) comprises a parallel inductance (13), resistance (14) and capacitance, the latter being formed by a fixed capacitance (15) and a series varactor (1b) controlled by a.d.c. voltage from a variable resistor (7). The transistor (120) is controlled by pulses from the sweep circuit.
