Abstract

As the candle burns, heat of combustion promotes sublimation of the lindane, the gas dispersing as an insecticide. The lindane is pref. inserted in the wax as a thin, cylindrical cartridge parallel to the wick. The cartridge can be made of a measured quantity of powdered lindane mixed with candle wax. The candles are easy to make and inexpensive. They have an indefinite shelf life. The gas is more deadly to insects than aerosol sprays of lindane. The candle flame attracts insects into the zone of highest concn. of gas.
