Abstract
Ignition circuit for internal combustion engines, the circuit controlling the current flowing in the ignition coil in order to maximise firing efficiency. The control is based on maintaining a relatively constant charging time for the coil and its supply circuit, both the resistance and inductance of the coil primary being kept low. Two voltage stabilised supplies (Vcc, Vdd) are generated once the ignition switch (2) is closed and are connected to the mechanical contact breaker (4) via a resistor (Rc) and also a two output signal generator (10). One output is a function of firing frequency (20) and feeds a ramp generator (30), a comparator (40) and a two input bistable trigger circuit (60) which also receives one of the initial signal generator outputs (S1). This in turn triggers a coil current charging unit (6) directly charging the ignition coil (3).
