Abstract

The electric starter for an internal combustion engine has a front contact face with the brushes orientated axially. The life of the brush carries is increased by making it from plastics material. An insulated channel is used to house the connection for the positive brush. a shoulder (6) is located between the shaft (1) and plate (5) of a starter motor. A brush carrier (7) has a central hub (7a) in the bore of which a support (5a) engages with three arms (8, 9, 10) orientated towards the exterior. Slides (18) forming channels (17) have slots (19b) in which the brushes (23, 24) are inserted. A spring (25) presses them against the commutator face (3). One brush (23) is connected to ground by a shunt (26) which passes through a slot (19b) in the cover (19) while the shunt (33) for the positive brush (24) passes via a channel in the carrier.
