Abstract

The acceleration switch is used in a road vehicle for automatically releasing a passenger safety appts. in the event of an accident. It comprises a housing (1) containing a trapezoidal-shaped tensioned spring element (12) carrying a weight (19) at its free end. The spring expansion caused by excessive movement of the weight (19) is detected to operate an electronic switching device. The housing (1) is filled with a damping fluid (22) to a sufficient to cover the weight (19) and the active length of the spring element (12).
