Abstract

The ring has alternating internal (8c) and external (8d) flange sections projecting radially from a cylindrical wall (8b). The ring is used on a tripod type universal joint shaft coupling. It retains bearing needles (4a) associated with each leg (7a) of the tripod. When sectioned in a diametric plane between discontinuous flange sections, the ring has an 'L' section, the continuous bottom flange (8a) turning in and having a dia. which exceeds that of the tripod stub axle (7a). The intruned flange sections (8c) serve to retain the ring in an axle groove (7c) and the out turned sections (8d) retain a bearing sleeve (4). The unit is of elastically deformable material, and the out-turned sections (8d) are at a greater axial offset from the continuous flange (8a).
